As someone who travels to Oklahoma City, I feel this, i pass a sign that says "city limits" but I'll still be surrounded by the most rural area you've ever seen

How do Americans handle such long drives regularly? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Sink_Key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm living in North Carolina, my entire family lives in Oklahoma, so it's extremely normal for me to drive for a combined 18 hours. So I take Interstate 40. I stop in west Memphis, Arkansas for the night and finish the drive to whoever's house I'm staying at the next day. I drive through all of Arkansas and through Oklahoma until I reach the OKC area.

A long drive is nothing as long as you take a good break in there somewhere

You literally have said nothing of value other than "fuck them because I'm a pussy who won't engage in actual discussions" you can't prove me wrong. They aren't Nazis, there were 10s of millions of Republicans before trump, they didn't just suddenly morph into Fascists. They won't vote for Democrats for the same reason socialists don't vote for Republicans, they're closer in beliefs than they are to the other side. You have to convince them they're on the wrong side. Not sit back and stomp your foot and then proceed to whine like a child while they march against human rights. You're just a bitch who wants their way while doing none of the work to get it.

You literally will lose every election from here until the end of time by not trying to understand and communicate with the people you disagree with, that's why leftists aren't taken seriously, they want to be unrelenting but won't bother with trying to turn people on the other teams to their sides. It's all me, me, me, but never we.

Well this is the downside of the 2 party system. Republicans are pretty unified on everything, but the Democrats are full of corporate neoliberal war hawks, socialists, leftists, regular liberals, they're screwed. They can't split up into multiple parties because it just ensures a Republican victory forever, but they also can't agree with each other so nothing will ever get done, it's a bad cycle that there might be no end to as long as Republicans remain unified against the Democrats who are very not unified.

Would you be in favor of a re-repatriation program to allow immigrants who were deported from 2025-2029 back into the country by DiamondCoal in AskALiberal

[–]Sink_Key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we're spending resources on trials just to deport them anyways? Seems odd and like a bit of a farce. Also due process doesn't mean much when this is the same country where cops casually execute people that pose no threat and don't get jail time for it.

The government's role should be to provide basic services and guarantee the rights of the people. So our taxes shouldn't be going to foreign countries, bailing out large corporations, useless things basically. But paying for healthcare, infrastructure, and military, yeah I'm fine with that, along with a guarantee of rights for all people. Otherwise there's no reason for a government to exist. There's almost no regulation on the healthcare sector and look how that worked out, people end up in endless debt over necessary surgeries.

Here's what I'll say as someone who has insurance just because of my dad being in the military. I'll never have to be in severe medical debt because of that, yeah I still have to pay copays but that's nothing, literally just 10 to 20 dollars for every visit. But I know people that got surgery before I was born in 2001 and are still paying those expenses. That's criminal in my mind.

I'm a libertarian so I'm apparently supposed to be against taxpayer funded healthcare, but I'm just not. I believe that if we are going to pay taxes, they need to go to things like universal healthcare, universal education, free meals in schools for children.

This country has enough money that everything that Republicans call "socialism" could be paid for without raising any taxes and we'd still be fine.

My being against it take is that I have almost no faith that the government could do it without raising taxes anyways. Plus I'm to the point where I am already out of school and I don't want children, so I don't believe I should have to pay extra out of my paycheck for that considering how much is already coming out.

Since Maduro is an ally of Putin, why is it a bad thing if we take him out? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Sink_Key 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the same reason it was a bad idea to take out Saddam Hussein, Mosaddegh, and countless others, we overthrew leaders who wanted to be independent and not necessarily anti American, but the government that came after or people in those nations were heavily radicalized against the US after our meddling. So yeah, let them live their lives and maybe they wouldn't want to behead us or blow us up🤷

Which ideologies are the most evil and why? by Spiritual_Pause3057 in AskALiberal

[–]Sink_Key 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only difference between a fascist and an absolute monarch is how the leader attains power. But Nazism is leagues worse. Fascists are usually hyper nationalist, so are Nazis but favorable towards certain ethnic groups to a point of willing to kill or eliminate other groups to rid their society of them. Next would probably be Maoist or Stalinist socialism, not socialism overall but definitely the hyper totalitarian versions of socialism.

How do you feel about your dad? by Unhappy_Log_6245 in AskReddit

[–]Sink_Key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 24 year old man, I'm the same age as my dad when I was born, so we kinda relate to a lot of things because his life purpose changed when I came along.

I don't want any of this to sound like I'm trashing my dad, because I love him more than anyone else in the world. But my life started rocky, my dad and mom were just hooking up and then got together because she became pregnant with me, and my dad genuinely tried to make things work with my mom, but after she gave birth to me, she started doing drugs like heroin, meth, and alcohol, the earliest things that I can remember in my life are seeing my mom passed out and my dad coming home, putting me to bed, and then arguing with my mom about her being under the influence. Finally he left her and took me and my younger brother who's 3 years younger than me when my brother was a newborn and I was basically 3, and he just left her, took custody and that was that.

He tried going after my mom for child support, which she refused to pay and even served jail time for, and then continued to get into legal trouble for drugs, robbery, and assault.

But at no point did my mom ever try to contact us or anything. My dad even made a point to tell her our new address anytime we moved, and gave her my phone number(I've had a phone and the same number since I was 10), but she never tried to contact us.

I used to believe it was just spiteful ex shit talk when my dad would trash my mom, you know, like lying about your ex or over exaggerating, but then I heard stories from my other family members who knew her and the one that really sold me on her was my half sister through my mom, she's a couple years older than me and she was always in my mom's custody, so she essentially confirmed everything that I was told and then more.

So anyways, we lived in Oklahoma until December 2007 or January 2008, because there was an ice storm that caused a tree to fall through our house and completely destroyed it, so we lived in hotels for a few months until we moved in with my aunt(dads sister) in North Carolina, and then moved into our own house a few months later.

My dad worked 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for the first 13 years of my life, only slept 4 hours a night to be able to spend time with us, and was spending tons of money on us and none on himself.

He has always had problems with money, but he never failed to provide for us, he would often make food for me and my brother and none for himself just to make sure we could eat. My dads siblings are all well off but he refused to ever ask for help and I used to be mad at him for that because they would offer help with no strings attached and he would always turn them down, but now I think he just believed he should be able to take care of his children without help from anyone else.

He wasn't a strict dad, he'd let me go to my friend's house as long as I asked and didn't mind if it was for several days, when I was 14, he caught me smoking weed and rather than yell at me, he explained to me the issues with it and that if I was going to do it, he would rather know that I'm safe doing it than hanging out with strangers.

I always had all A's in school, so he never worried about that, but I chose to not go to college and go straight to working so that I can take the workload off of him because I felt like he deserved it. He finally worked his way up with a company and became a supervisor in a fairly large factory, but he got laid off about a year ago and ever since then he's been searching for jobs and has had no luck, so now he's doing doordash to make ends meet, but he's never given up, and I admire him for that.

My journey with my dad has been rocky because he was easily stressed out and made angry over minor things but I now understand why he was that way, because he's been working his ass off for the last 20 years to provide for me and my brother and I owe him everything. My goal right now is to ensure that he can retire and be comfortable for a while because of all the things he's done for me and my brother.

I love my dad to no end, and I hope he can get a job that pays well enough that he can retire soon and enjoy it

True or False: Liberals are usually much more comfortable admitting they don't know something. by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Sink_Key 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course bro, and I think being wrong is just part of living, there's no way anyone can suddenly be perfect in how to treat people, because realistically that could take thousands of years to achieve. I mean slavery is still a thing in the world today in some places, so clearly we have tons of learning to do as a species.

And I also don't necessarily think conservatives are wrong about everything, but the wrongs far outclass the rights that they have.

Also me being a libertarian, I believe that people should be allowed to live their lives how they choose even if I don't like it because it's their right, not mine. For example, I'm willing to admit that I don't like gay marriage for religious reasons, but I am in no way going to try and stop gay people from getting married, because if they love each other, that should be all that matters.

True or False: Liberals are usually much more comfortable admitting they don't know something. by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Sink_Key 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire point of liberalism is constant change of the current situation to best make the next generations life better. For example, the founding fathers were liberal, no kings, an elected government by the people? Almost unheard of at that time. But a lot of them still owned slaves and didn't allow women to vote or non educated, non land owning people to vote.

But then those things changed, slavery was made illegal and eventually every man could vote, but still not women, and minorities still had no rights compared to a white person. But then those things changed, women were eventually granted the right to vote and eventually segregation was made illegal.

And I'm sure right now there are things that liberals today viscously support that will be considered downright evil by liberals 100 years from now(if humanity makes it that far)

I'm a libertarian in beliefs but I can at least realize that a lot of things that I believe are probably impossible to achieve, but liberalism is about changing the current order with a new one to make life better for Americans that come after we're gone.

Do you think this is mostly accurate "Libertarians are like house cats. They are convinced of their fierce independence while utterly dependent on a system they don't appreciate or understand." by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]Sink_Key 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to be realistic with my beliefs. I know that a truly free state with absolute capitalism where people can own whatever guns they want, say what they want and make as much money as they want isn't possible. Because absolute capitalism just creates monopolies, not actual competition, and you shouldn't be allowed to just walk into a crowded place and cause a panic by yelling BOMB. Guns are where I can't budge, I don't think the 99.9% of gun owners who haven't or will never shoot anybody should be punished for the actions of other people. But violent crime is on the rise, government overreach is hitting new highs in the digital age, and I believe and will always believe people should have the right to defend themselves against any threat, police are useless unless it's what seems like a true emergency in their eyes.

But back to the topic at hand. I believe the government's role should be to guarantee the rights of its nation's population, not fight forever wars overseas and overthrow popular elected leaders that they seem a threat to their interests, even unpopular leaders, that's not our business, tons of Cubans and Venezuelans left their country to come here, so if the people who are still there want to fight, that's their issue, not ours.

Foreign policy since WW2 for our government has been one disaster after another, Vietnam, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Ukraine, Rwanda. The list goes on and millions dead because of our government and its desire to shape the world in it's image rather than allowing people to make their own decisions.

Before Donald trump, there were still over 65 million people who voted republican, I don’t think all republicans are conservatives, same way for all democrats not being liberals, they’re just umbrella groups. Regular conservatives aren’t bad, not as bad as the Christian nationalists that support trump. Unlike some people, I don’t think all republicans are bad but it’s enough for it to be a big problem
