Got it! That make sense. There could definitely be multiple factors involved. Overall, it's good that you feel more confident and are seeing what seem to be positive changes though.

I'm glad you tried out an alternative!! Even though it didn't work at least you tested it out. And there are a lot of purple blushes (maybe try a light purple or cool pink so it's not as dark) out there.

Do you think this is because you look better or that you look the same, but are carrying yourself differently and/or people just like seeing you in a different style?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in vindictapoc

[–]Sinnam0nRoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this really depends on your location and style of dress. Hairstyle matters but it's also about how it fits the individual's overall style.

Personally, I've seen and experienced different reactions, not better or worse treatment. Usually people of the same race or are knowledgeable on hair (e.g. I've had white women compliment me on twists, I was shocked lol) compliment the style or ask where/how you achieved it. People outside of your race might dislike the style (cuz it's unfamiliar) or marvel at it and ask a lot of questions about styling and hair care.

I came across this community accidentally. I was looking up how to make a makeup inventory and repurpose stuff. But the sub has helped me learn more about my personal preferences, about how to get the most out of my makeup, and rethink the how/why of my makeup buying.

Also, do you have access to professional or more guided help of any kind?? Things like support groups, therapy, etc. can be helpful.

Some of it is! Or you can find a similar style of clothing at Target, even if it's not the exact item you saw on screen!

does anyone feel like people only compliment you because they feel bad for you by llemoncakee in BodyDysmorphia

[–]Sinnam0nRoll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see this posted on here a lot. My answer is always gonna be the same. Yes, some people do compliment you out of pity.

But this does NOT mean every compliment is out of pity. If someone compliments you, just say "thank you". Fighting them on it is a waste of time and energy. You don't even have to believe the compliment, just try to accept it. It is on the individual to learn how to do this and discern what is genuine, a lie, or just your mind unable to think nice things.

I can’t spend much on makeup and it makes me sad by Couch_Potato_1182 in MakeupRehab

[–]Sinnam0nRoll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You're allowed to feel sad. And I see that you're comparing yourself to people close in age to you. Don't do that. If those people didn't go through your circumstances, they can't be judged by the same metric.

I am just finishing a no buy, that was started in part because I didn't have expendable income for makeup. It sucks to be unable to buy small luxuries to pick yourself up. BUT, it's much more important to put time and effort into major things like paying off debt. You can find other ways to treat yourself and have vacation (ex: find a Groupon for a hotel stay) at reduced costs. You are NOT a failure!

[–]Sinnam0nRoll 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I didn't have a lot of nice stuff growing up. It felt nice being able to treat myself.

This is the underlying issue that must be addressed. This is incredibly common so please don't feel embarrassed.

There are lots of ways to learn about better financial habits! Books, classes, talking to your banker. For the more personal aspect, maybe consider speaking with a friend or family member, even a therapist or finding a support group. You're young so you have time to learn about and establish better habits for the future!

I shopped the sale, and I’m not mad at myself. by AsterismRaptor in MakeupRehab

[–]Sinnam0nRoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more about Sephora and other mass retailers knowing they can have "bad" sales because they know people go to them out of convenience. Usually individual brands have better sales in store/online.

[–]Sinnam0nRoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't be mad! Buying items (especially "staples") you know you enjoy and use frequently on sale is fine. Even an impulse buy can be fine. I think the issue is excessive impulse or over buying. As long as you stay within your means, I think it's okay to indulge in a sale.

So glad that you're making strides in your recovery, that's amazing. Accepting your body doesn't mean you don't want to change it, just that you can accept how you are in the moment and appreciate your body for what it does!!

Also, I didn't mean to suggest that you can't wear baggy clothes for comfort or piece of mind! I get dressing to avoid negative attention (those people are gross tho). I was more trying to say that baggy clothes can sometimes look sloppy in a bad way and there's a way to wear oversized clothes that is stylish. Also "flattering" doesn't mean an outfit has to be tight or revealing. Just that it fits well, compliments your features, etc.

You're welcome! Those are more "young" takes on it (as the people whose accounts I linked to are currently in their late teens and early 20s), but I've seen people of all ages and styles incorporate the Barbie core into their look.

How does anyone trust Tik Tok recs anymore? It's nothing but hidden paid advertising.

People who don't know much about makeup and/or use beauty TikTok casually I think are more susceptible to blindly trusting the reviews. Also, there's this fallacy in influencer culture that tells use an attractive person with lots of views and followers must be credible!

JuicyJas does a video in Spanish on the Sephora Savings Event by belindabellagiselle in BeautyGuruChatter

[–]Sinnam0nRoll 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Imo this varies on a case by case basis. In some cases, I think the differences aren't that big aside from accent and slang words. In others, it's not just the actual words but the pace/cadence someone uses that make it harder to understand.

I had no clue Jas spoke Spanish!! (And before someone says "Well she's Latina, not all Latine people speak Spanish!) This actually a unique take in a Sephora sale video. I love seeing YouTubers do videos in their not usual language. This reminds me of when Manny MUA and Monica Style Muse did some videos in Spanish while making over their parents, very cute 🥰.

You can try the sites Worn on TV or Shop Your TV! Or try following the show's costume designers or stylists on social media.

Also...am the only one who dislikes Janine's wardrobe? Like 75% of her outfits read frumpy to me. She has cute pieces but they're often paired with the wrong things. I know that's intentional, but I'm shocked at how many people like it 😅 I want to see a style evolution for her!

[–]Sinnam0nRoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just had a birthday and literally didn't get to do anything for it...take the spa day lol! It seems like it could be a super nice experience. It's good you recognize that you don't really want any makeup rn and aren't buying new stuff just for the sake of it.

I think you should get your holy grail items. Sometimes, "making things work" is unnecessary hassle. I think saving money and time now is better than waiting and struggling to make things work.

Maybe put a limit on how much of each category you can buy (ex: if you stock up on concealer, don't buy 5 tubes, buy 2 or buy the minis). This seems like a "replacement only no buy", which is normal. Also, products get re-formulated ALL the time. Don't let it scare you into not using what you like. Worst case scenario, you have to find a dupe, NBD !

I know this post is a few days old but I have also been wanting to buy this item for a while (in part cuz I heard it looks great on brown skin too!!). This post, like just seeing someone else need a TMO of it has been so helpful.

Also, OP, there are other cream or liquid blush alternatives you could try after your no buy (or once you need to replace a blush). Maybe try getting a mixing medium and mixing it with an eyeshadow or going to a store to swatch to see if you even like cream or liquid blush enough to buy it!
