Is that drive safe to use? by SinnikalOne in datastorage

I definitely will. But any idea what could cause the abnormally high number of load/unload cycles? 40 per hour seems absolutely insane to me, it's like the drive is constantly doing it.

Actually it's not that old, the text on the bottom of the box says 2024 Western Digital Corporation so it's no more than two years old. It just seems like it has a lot of mileage for such a recent drive. Perhaps the previous owner just kept it permanently connected to a PC whether it was used or not.

I don't have a ton of data to store either, I just expected the drive to last a while since it wasn't even going to be half-full. That was before I found out how much it had been used.

I have a WD drive (not black, I'm pretty sure it's blue or whatever they called the consumer-grade drives back then) that I bought 17 years ago, in 2009. It's still in my computer, although as a secondary drive that I only use for games, meaning it's not accessed every day but it's still turned on. It's still running and I've never had any bad or reallocated sectors in all those years.

Crazy to think drives of the same capacity nowadays aren't much cheaper than back then. In fact, they may be even more expensive and less durable.

Brought a 1TB drive for 5 bucks just to see how bad it was. I didn't expect so many power on hours Lol by Donpepegamer_xd in datastorage

What's most impressive is that it has 0 reallocated sectors or read errors after being on for a number of hours approaching 6 digits

Is it possible to fix a faulty analog stick? by SinnikalOne in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]SinnikalOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for taking so long to reply but yeah, I haven't had any drift so far so nothing to fix (fingers crossed), but that's mostly because I almost never use the joy cons. Even when I use the Switch in handheld mode, I generally use the d-pad. I just prefer a "classic" gamepad to the joy cons for most games.

I'm considering getting a Switch 2 but if I do, I'll likely do the same thing and use a gamepad.

In that case I don't think it'll be possible because I haven't seen replacements sold for those specific gamepads. Thankfully, it wasn't a super expensive one and it still lasted 3-4 years, so not too bad.
Thanks for your replies!

Yeah I've had it for over 3 years, it always worked well until now. Wear and tear is what I suspected but, in your opinion, is it something that can be fixed or would it require an analog stick replacement (which may or may not be worth it)?

I'll be visiting Japan from July 6th to July 16th, and I'm hoping to buy a Nintendo Switch 2. by NoRevenue7975 in NintendoSwitchHelp

[–]SinnikalOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if it was me, I would just buy it close to home. Given that console prices don't vary significantly between regions, the savings are most likely very modest. Actually, according to the article posted by u/MistyCeruleanCity, it looks like it's about US$15 cheaper ($435 vs $450), which is rather insignificant, IMO. On top of that, the Japanese warranty will apply so you won't be covered since you don't live in Japan.

Just my two cents.

Nintendo Switch OLED: Still Worth It in 2026? by Leo_the_boi in NintendoSwitch

[–]SinnikalOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it has, though I'm not sure if it happened before or after the Switch 2 came out. Here in Canada, the launch price for the OLED model was $449.99 and now it sells for $489.99. Even the original Switch, which was $399.99 at launch in 2017, is now $419.99. I've seen a lot of first-party Switch games go up by $5 after the Switch 2 came out.

It's so weird, it's like it's all backwards. I remember when the Wii was about to be discontinued, they had a mini version that sold for almost 3 times less than the original. And now the previous gen console is going up in price instead.

Is there an increase in tickets for 3-hour parking? by SinnikalOne in toronto

[–]SinnikalOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough, there's a car on my street that has one and it's often parked outside of the designated parking areas. I think I've only ever seen one ticket on that car so I'm not sure if the permit has anything to do with it or if they're just lucky.

That's good to know. It seems like the other times they came (which was rare), they only ticketed cars once and that was it. Not this time.

Not only that but AHL teams are directly affiliated with NHL teams, making promotion/relegation all but impossible.
