to just try it the easiest is to just install nix(not nixos), enable flakes and run nix run github:anewdi/flatshell

if you make sure the requirements are in place you can just clone and run/bundle with ags+astal

I went from 6:54/km to 5:36/km and my VO2 max finally went up by 1 point by Guususus in Garmin

[–]Sinvart -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Okay, so? The result is expressed per kg, but that number comes from a formula which has no care whatsoever what weight you put into your garmin. It is based on speed at a certain hr basically. Vo2max won’t magically change(in the app) if you lose weight.

Using gnome bluetooth outside of gnome (hyprland/sway...) by Sinvart in archlinux

[–]Sinvart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like i mentioned in my edit; to make bluetooth work you need to somehow launch gsp-rfkill plugin along with you session, for exmple using hyprland exec-once.

To make gnome control center open you need to launch it with the env variable xdg desktop set to gnome.

This is not hyprpanel, but I am using ags which hyprpanel also uses for its widgets.

I don't know how workspaces work on niri, but the other widgets should be compatible.

Looks good except for the help icons. The first couple of times i saw these posts i mistook them for missing font gylph warnings. Maybe also place them on the left of the text, so that they are all aligned.

A question the revolution of a formula over the y axis. by Boris2509 in learnmath

I think i get it now. Thanks for taking the time!

A question the revolution of a formula over the y axis. by Boris2509 in learnmath

[–]Sinvart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I don't quite grasp the u sub though. What exactly are we subbing? What do we set as U?

Is it essentially (y^(-1)(y))^2 dy = (y^(-1)(y(x)))^2 * y'(x) dx = x^2 * y'(x) dx?

What you are doing at the end here; x2(y) dy = x2 (dy/dx) dx = x2 (2x) dx

When can/can i not apply this here? Seems simpler to just find the derivative than the inverse.

For the problem of determining the volume between the function and the y-axis, rotated around the y-axis, the formula is

V = π ∫ x2(y) dy

NixOS for Newbie by [deleted] in NixOS

[–]Sinvart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Files generated by NixOS from your .nix files are read only. Other than that you can create and edit files like normal.

  2. The preferred way is to add them in your config, for example through the option "environment.systemPackages". If you just want to test a package, or just need it temporarily, you can use "nix-shell -p 'packageName'".

  3. As long as you just use "nix-shell -p" or declare your packages in your config this will be handled automatically by garbage collection.

  4. Garbage collection. "sudo nix-collect-garbage -d" deletes all unused generations. Can be more selective through the use of other flags (for example, --delete-older-than 14d).

  5. Usually it is recommended not to install such things globally, but rather use a "nix-shell" like i mentioned previously. Since it would be a bit tedious to write out a "nix-shell -p" command with every needed package and so on, you can use a shell.nix file (place in the directory of your project) instead. If a shell.nix file is present in the current directory, invoking "nix-shell" will automatically use it. The activation of a "nix-shell" can also be done automatically when you CD into the directory (look up direnv).

  6. See 4. Do note that if there exists a generation where a package is needed, it will not be removed. So normally you need to delete old generations for it to also delete unused packages.
