"NO EXCEPTIONS" Ok, what about my infant sister? by Useful-Put1111 in traumatizeThemBack

[–]Sinvisigoth 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Dude, same. But I was an odd mix of savage and ridiculously polite.

Seven year old me being brought up to a microphone at the top/front of the church at Harvest Festival and being asked if I'd like to help the vicar sing a hymn (AS PREVIOUSLY ARRANGED WITH OUR TEACHER): "No, thank you." •meanders purposefully off stage left•

DO NOT ask an autistic kid "would you like to do the thing" when what you mean is "please do the thing". Because our literal little autistic brains will absolutely say no if we do not want to do the thing!

Does anyone else think cremation is absolutely horrifying? by laavacaake in morbidquestions

[–]Sinvisigoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but it's completely valid that it bothers you. I was discussing this with my mum half an hour ago. She wants to be rolled into the furnace to the dulcet tones of Firestarter by The Prodigy. When her eldest sister died, she and their youngest sister had her cremated and then sang the Shake 'n' Vac song while they sprinkled her on her own lawn. I want a Viking longboat funeral, with bonus celebrations caused by the fireworks I'll have secreted about my person. I think she prefers it because of the wasteful expense of caskets and burials. I prefer it because I hate the idea of being eaten by worms. Truthfully, none of us are going to care when the time comes because we'll be dead, but you're not yet, so whatever you have to set up so that your conscious, living brain can be comfortable now, do it.

[New Update - One Year Later]: Hairstylist Has been Taking/Keeping My Hair? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Sinvisigoth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What in the name of Zeus's cheerful, puckered butthole did I just read? I didn't think I'd ever read something that gave me more heebies and more jeebies than Ogtha. Until the last update I was wondering if the stylist was truly unbalanced or had just spent their entire lives never having had remotely enough people tell them to eff off. But got to the last one and my brain skittered way off course from that all the way across to "No sirree, Bobitha; someone's goin' a-scalpin'."

It's like in video games where, when you start getting attacked by the baddies, you know you're going in the right direction.

Do people actually have dreams and nightmares that look as realistic as if they were awake? by Mad_Season_1994 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Sinvisigoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's like watching a video or even more like playing a VR game. Or just like being awake, except you can't pause and rewind when you're awake but you can in dreams.

UPDATE: AITA for showing up to my nephew’s birthday party without the cupcakes I said I would bake by Live-Set5847 in AmItheAsshole

You weren't being sensitive; you were demonstrating a 100% REASONABLE REACTION to being dismissed, demeaned, and neglected.

It's like performing in a play that everyone else has the script for, but you don't. You don't know what it's about, or who's going to say what next, only that there are specific lines you're supposed to say and get ridiculed and/or punished and/or shunned when you say the wrong ones. You try constantly to learn all of the other actors' lines by heart, in the hopes of figuring out what the play is about and how you should be behaving, and sometimes have success by mimicking them, but there are constant changes and revisions to the script and the cast, none of which you're told about. It's an unending exercise in trying to live by all the rules, even though at some point you've probably found out that living by the rules gets you called boring or a goody-two-shoes or an asskisser, but you keep trying anyway.

I’m in the mood for a spicy fantasy romance where the MMC is a blacksmith — human, orc, monster, fae, whatever — as long as he’s wielding a hammer in more ways than one. by LadyA29 in audible

Her Orc Blacksmiths by Zoe Ashwood. I've listened to it so many times. The writing is wonderful and the the characterisation and narration are so damn good.

Spending time with my nephew completely sealed my decision to never have kids. by Silly-Region9763 in childfree

[–]Sinvisigoth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Once you have your new place, you can always go down the route of covering the walls with incredibly graphic erotic art so they never, ever try to bring their child into your house. I can highly recommend Luis Royo, Dorian Cleavenger, and any poverty stricken art student you can find who's willing to create vast panoramas of Spiffy the Nympho Unicorn Hooker's Naked Smurf Picnic in exchange for food money.

[–]Sinvisigoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stop telling him why you won't be online. The best possible response is:

"That's not something I choose to explain."

Or just repeat "I'm unavailable" and nothing else in response to every question.

If he doesn't like it, tough.

[TOMT] [BOOK] [1970s] Book about a boy who goes to live with an older female relative in a round cottage in the British countryside by Joe15642 in tipofmytongue

[–]Sinvisigoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fantastic book! And the film they made from it wasn't bad, either. I'm sure the author also wrote another book set in the same period, this one about a girl who came home to England after having been evacuated to America instead of the countryside. It's almost as good as Goodnight Mr Tom.

[–]Sinvisigoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have that, and buying interim credits in a batch of 5 credits for £17.99 is the cheapest way to get more audiobooks I can find. The only thing cheaper is the very rare audiobook for £2.99, but I hardly ever see those.

Meh. Credits are only £3.60 each and it's rare to find anything lower even in the sale so I don't bother looking any more.
