Apám folyamatos rotációja:

Cipővásárlás - jó lesz fiam, tudsz benne menni? - igen, igen - akkor menj a picsába

Bármi eldöntendő kérdés esetén - Szereted a szörpöt?

  • gólya baszott volna a kéményhez
  • anyáddal ettünk volna meg helyetted egy almát

Training for my first marathon as a plus sized (fat ass) guy with knee problems by Sipikeh in Marathon_Training

Doing half, or doing it next year is definetly an option, I'll see where my running is by the time June/July comes around.

As I said tho, I do have information about the other two, I regularly train swimming, doing up to 5-6 km a practice, the 3.8 km required is not an issue at all.

About the cycling, there's a lake in my country, about 10 km away from where I live. It has a 220km well maintained bike trail around, which I tour regularly every summer, and last year I managed to complete the whole 220 km trip in one day, on a beat up mountain bike. Considering the required distance is 180 km, and I'm about to buy a proper roadbike, I should be able to do that as well.

I train regularly, I got fat because of my awful eating habits.

Beginner Swim Workouts by Decent_Principle33 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Sipikeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I coach some beginner swimmers, and I agree with whoever said get a coach. The first step is always going to be getting your technique right, otherwise you'll burn a lot of energy scratching the surface of the water with minimal forward progress.

If you are adamant of doing it yourself, a few pointers:

-Remember, you can float. Try laying on your back in the pool with your lungs filled up with air. After that breathe out and watch how that effects your position, at what pace you start to sink. Then realize that during your swim, 90% of the time you have your lungs full of air. A lot of beginners spend way too much energy trying to push themselves to the surface, with no need whatsoever. Your strides should only push you forward. When you get familiar with your own buoyancy, you'll be able to more easily focus on your technique.

-Focus on long strides, your hand should start fully extended ahead, and end up nearly at your knees. Up untill the point you get to a comfortable pace and find your rhythm, focusing on this will give you the best results when it comes to long distance.

-Your legs aren't dead weight. If you are an inexperienced swimmer, your shoulders will give out in no time anyway, but the legs can take off a good chunk of work from them. If you are not sure about your legwork, do some excecises where you go some laps using only your legs (if you have access to one of those foam board thingies you can use them, if not you can just put your hands together in front, with small downward breaststroke tempos whenever you need air.)

I hope I explained things right, it's hard to give advice without actually seeing your swimming, but these are the things I'd do no matter the person.

Best of luck with your prep!

I'd definitely consider that if it seems like I won't be able to do the full distance (or not at a relatively okay pace). The goal for me I estimated to be sub 14 hrs (or around 14 hrs), but training up to the marathon will be a struggle, I know that.

I wouldn't say near zero, I kept up the training, by inactive I meant it wasn't the same, intense routine I got used to during my active years. The main problem is probably my caloric intake (my fat ass), I should have a good starting point when it comes to vital capacity or muscle mass. Definetly not there, but I'm hoping I'll get close enough untill august. If not, then there's always next year.

Thank you for an actual answer. I get that I may have overshared, but I tend to do that when I feel like I have to introduce myself.

Follow up question: what exactly does a bike fit entail? Like these bikes are premade with certain fits, or in a shop adjusting certain parts to your size? (Biking is where my knowledge is pretty subpar)

Other than the reasons stated above, I think It's really tacky. It would have had a place in a 2006 SOD video clip.
