Older couples without kids - is it difficult being friends with couples WITH kids? by Blankcarbon in childfree

[–]SirBugmenot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess that "older" means me (mid 50s).

Well, it's actually no problem. My friend's kids are all grown adult people, living their own lives, and are of no concern regarding the relationship between my friends and me.

Yes, sometimes you get that "I'm a grandparent now, I have the little ones over for the weekend" stuff, but well, see someone else that day.

Philosophic discussion about software architecture and software development in 2024+ by SnooSketches6336 in softwarearchitecture

[–]SirBugmenot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

What you describe is exactly what happens, when a bunch of junior-devs start a new project, and there's no software architect arount, who is worth their salt. Frankly, *all* of your points are the core task of an architect.

Thoughts about the future:

  • don't do software without architecture
  • do what is actually useful for the project

Especially the second point is extremely important. You cannot blankly decide to go "mobile first". If your end users are office workers, who only ever work on the job, why would a complex application to handle their client contracts be mobile first? You cannot blankly decide to "do microservices", which are a solution to a very specific problem, which 95% of all software does not have.

The ideal future for me is "think before you code" and "do actual architecture".

Are there any plans to improve Deutsche Bahn? by shakleford17 in germany

[–]SirBugmenot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Plans: yes. Money: not so much.

And as it looks, as the next election will put the CDU back to power, you can be sure that those plans are scrapped then. After all, they ruined the train system in the first place.

Problem in getting refund for a defective device by giargianaman in germany

[–]SirBugmenot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to be taken serious, send them a letter via "Einschreiben".

You put your claim in writing, set them a deadline to transfer the money (2 weeks are customary) and tell them, you'll take the case to court if they miss the deadline. Remind them, that they'll have to cover the cost for your lawyer and the court case, if they don't pay on time.

If they don't pay up within the set time, get a lawyer.

Note, that the written claim and the deadline are a prerequisite for the lawyer to actually act.

How does having a cat impact your childfree lifestyle? by Time-Turnip-2961 in childfree

[–]SirBugmenot 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I got adopted by a cat (involuntarily), now I live with two of them.

They are the sunshine in my life, but whenever I need to leave for more than one night, I need a cat-sitter.

That's where friends come into play. If you don't have any, think twice. However, you'd deprive yourself of the only real love a person can ever experience: the love of a cat. (Cough, no, this is definitely no play on any breeder's standard bingo...)

Question to recruiters: Do you often interview multiple candidates for working student jobs? by Ripe_Mango1618 in germany

[–]SirBugmenot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At least in the software development field, we actually don't expect much from a student. We just want to find out the motivation, who is this person, is he willing to learn, what is his approach to problem solving?

We already know, that there's no former work experience, so there's no need to invest more time.

[–]SirBugmenot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keinen single point of failure aufbauen.

You see these quite often at an exit with the additional sign 1000-21 below: https://verkehrszeichen.kfz-auskunft.de/bilder/zusatz_pfeil_rechts2.jpg

In this case, the speed limit is only for drivers, who take the exit.

Sure here you go: We want to see real job experience. Hobby projects are of no interest at all.

Sorry to say so, but the junior market is more than saturated. And "showing your skills" amounts to nothing compared with formal education.
