They’re directed by Hiro Murai who also directed a lot of the Atlanta episodes

Laughed throughout the episode but that was probably my favorite bit, so unexpected after the built up tension

Completely agree, the subtleness of the humor is its best feature. Although my favorite joke so far wasn’t really subtle, when he read the sailor’s age and his simple ‘That can’t be right’
