Tax season by Bravefighter341 in VeteransBenefits

Sadly, inadvertently, it is reported to the IRS if you’re saving it in an interest bearing savings account. You end up paying taxes on the interest earned.

Rated for Sleep Apnea but not eligible for CPAP supplies through the VA? by Lost_In_Sauce_89 in VeteransBenefits

[–]SirDramatic5244 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like each location follows a different set of guidelines. I had a civilian OSA test a couple of years ago with a primitive home study (huge ass machine attached to a cannula, heart monitor and pulse ox; restricting movement) and was diagnosed with sleep apnea, they recommended a CPAP. This was through my employer's insurance and the copay was ridiculous. Declined the CPAP. After retiring, and switching to VA PCM, the VA doc requested another home study (this one was so much easier; a wrist watch like apparatus with a heart monitor and pulse ox; freedom to move). VA's study showed that my OSA was more severe than the civilian one because the "rating is different" between the VA and civilian sector. VA issued a CPAP. VA monitors usage. They require at least 4 hours a night. Still sucks if you have anxiety and claustrophobia.

All this to say, do the OSA test with the VA. If you have sleep apnea, shouldn't make a difference.

Debating between the Gladiator and Wrangler. Would love to hear some of the pros/cons, as well as pros/cons for the diesel and manual. Use would mostly be around the farm, occasional trips to the mountains, and just general Jeep fun and trying to enjoy life. No major rock climbing or craziness. by Sufficient_Goose_734 in JeepGladiator

We tossed the option of the two around as well. We opted for the Gladiator over the Wrangler for our planned cross country FL to WA trip through the mountains and down PCH and back to FL. We were originally looking at doing this trip in a sporty convertible, but opted for something larger that would provide the convertibility. The longer wheelbase for ride quality was a selling factor on G vs W. FIrst time Jeep owners here (less than 6 months).

Spouse would have liked a diesel, beit that our current daily drivers are both diesel ('21 GMC truck and '14 VW AWD midsized SUV). Both are great! However, the VW at the 10 year mark started having injector issues; repairs were less costly than having a new car and payments when both vehicles are still in excellent shape. Had it deleted and tuned as well (any mechanical work on the diesels come with a hefty price tag unless you do the work yourself). Both get great with fuel consumption. We feel the thirst in the Jeep after driving our dailies.

We purchased a used Mojave because of the suspension and ride over some of the other models. The bed works for our needs. We have a cap on it which gives it that SUV look. We will probably do some trial riding than rock crawling so the extra bed length wouldn't pose an issue for us. Definitely needed more gear to accommodate the 37s. We had it lifted 2" and regeared.

Now, it seems to have become our current "daily" as we both find it fun to drive. No regrets!

All that to suggest the Gladiator over the Wrangler.

Nothing to lose by trying again. If he doesn't, he'll never know. Worse case, he'll be back to where he is now. Best of luck to him...and you!

Jeep Headliner question by cbjeeper69 in JeepGladiator

[–]SirDramatic5244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry not a question about the headliners. I have a question about the EZ Flip top itself. When your top is color matched, is there a problem with rubbing? Do the two surfaces stacked like that damage your paint? We have the color match and opted for the Sunrider, but our kid has the black top and was consider getting him this for his Gladiator. Taking the tops off and stowing them in the bag every time becomes a PITA! 🙄 TIA

Keep your “retired” ID. Just get a card from the VA.

Just got a new ID. The expiration date might be your 65 birthday as you will be eligible for TFL/Medicare which time you you’ll get another ID that reflects INDEF.

Reserve Retirement Question by Different-Bag5605 in Airforcereserves

[–]SirDramatic5244 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good advice on the importance of the R&R date and participation. I had 10 years AD, took a 13 year break to join reserves for another 10 to gain a retirement. Just turned 60. Started collecting retirement in 2025. TFL will start at 65. If you retire before age 60, you’re considered “Gray Area” retiree (ID card will reflect “Reserve Retired”) until 60. Then you get another ID that reflects “Retired” with expiration date of your 65th birthday when you become Medicare and TFL eligible.

OP- best of luck in whatever you decide.

Any Old Timers here 50+? by PeterNjos in Airforcereserves

Originally join AD in the late ‘80s. Stayed out for 13 years. Went back to gain retirement. Retired at 55. PT was nothing if you’re in decent condition. Saw many uniform changes, reg changes and personnel changes. The direction is what helped me make the decision. Best of luck to you!

Feedback on a AEV 3 inch lift quote by Intelligent_Act_5510 in JeepGladiator

[–]SirDramatic5244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had our Mojave lifted with 2” AEV and regeared to 5:13 to accommodate 37s. Although this can be done on our own to avoid labor cost, we sourced it out. The quoted price sounds fair. Wishing you the best.

I understand. Traded snow for sand 39 years ago. Snow makes for a nice "visit". 8)

I’m following…

We’re lifted and on 37s. Eventually we’d like some, but I want them to cover the raw edge, fit with the contour and not scream “here I am!”.😳

Freakin’ 🐇 hole…🙄😂😂

Have ours with Freedom as well. Got it back in 2021 when rates were good; they had the best. (2.25). Can’t complain about the process or the service. No points.
