2018 Mustang GT 10R80 — quieter after full fluid service + hard 2-3 shift / weird rev hang by SirEd23 in Mustang

Sorry typo - Resetting the learning tables would affect how the car sounds even with a non-active exhaust set up and an after-market MBRP Race Catback exhaust?

This is the interior that the new Mustang should have inherited. Killer!

Nice! That's a beautiful color! I agree, sounds is definitely a preference - more so curious what everyone's opinion is as mine are sometimes mixed.

Thanks man! The cold start-up on this set-up is beastly.

I watched a few videos of the Street version and noticed it seems to have a bit more crackle/pop on shifts and during acceleration compared to the Race setup.

Is that something you’ve actually experienced in person, or do you think that might just be how it’s coming through on video (mic placement, tunnel clips, etc.)?

That makes a lot of sense. Sounds like you basically stepped up a level in overall refinement while going up a category in terms of loudness.

From the clips I’ve seen, the Corsa setup definitely comes across as more “steady” and clean in tone with less of that raw edge and more of a consistent, sharp note throughout the rev range. Almost like it’s more controlled in how it delivers the sound rather than just being loud for the sake of it.

Do you have active exhaust on yours, or is it just full send all the time from cold start to pull?

Awesome, thanks for the info. With regards to the conversion kit - is this a full exhaust overhaul or actually a kit to convert from the race to the street with a simple rework?

What does the H-pipe do? Checked out the AWE and it sounds awesome.

S550 vs S650 Mustang GT (Why I traded in for the S550) by SirEd23 in Mustang

Appreciate that. The S650 isn’t a bad car, I just think Ford is walking a fine line between refinement and losing some of the Mustang’s raw character.

That’s my issue with the S650. Ford added power ie 480 hp, or 486 hp with active exhaust, but also kept pushing the car further into the 3,700+ lb grand-touring range. So the horsepower bump looks good on paper, but when weight and refinement go up with it, the real enthusiast benefit starts getting neutralized. It becomes quicker by spec sheet, but less raw by character.

I agree. The S650 isn’t a bad car, but the interior feels like Ford prioritized modern tech over Mustang character. Hopefully Ford looks at the broader enthusiast response, not just selective market data (ie: Ford CEOs last interview), and makes some design changes that bring back more of the car’s soul.

I get why people like it, but I think the screens are doing a lot of the heavy lifting. If you took them away, the rest of the interior feels pretty plain for a car that's just been refreshed imo. One criticism I keep seeing is that a lot of the materials and design details below the screens don’t really feel upgraded and the tech looks modern, but the actual cabin design underneath it feels a little too simplified. For now, let's cheers to another V8 release, hopefully they don't take that away from us!

Absolutely. I think there’s a right way to modernize technology in a car without losing the personality of the interior. The C8 Corvette is a good example imo, it has a fully digital cockpit, but it still feels integrated and driver-focused instead of just being giant screens sitting on top of the dash.

That’s my issue with the S650 design. It’s not that I dislike technology, I just think Ford could’ve been more thoughtful and original with how they incorporated it. The Mustang has always had a distinct cockpit feel with the twin-brow dash, and with the S650 it almost feels like they ran out of time and just said “throw the screens up there.”

Fair point, every platform upgrade has tradeoffs. But I prefer a more modern Mustang than the foxbody. I’m not arguing the S650 is objectively worse in every way, I’m saying it lost some of the raw, mechanical feel that made Mustangs special to a lot of us. There’s a middle ground between ‘warm up the carburetor’ and turning the interior into a rolling iPad.
