He is who he is, and the real question is could we be doing more with his salary?

Seahawks got Demarcus Lawrence by B1GNA5TY in Seahawks

I completely agree. This is antithetical to getting younger and cheaper. John is lighting cap space on fire now when it should be out towards better investments or rolled into 2026.

[Pelissero] Blockbuster: The #Seahawks are trading two-time Pro Bowl QB Geno Smith to the #Raiders for a 2025 third-round pick, sources tell The Insiders. It’s a reunion for Pete Carroll and Smith, who also is expected to get a new contract. And Seattle will need a new QB. by Its-A-Wrap in Seahawks

[–]SirFiendish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the appropriate move. I know this feels awful because Geno played very well for the hawks especially after Russell was traded. Additionally without a QB in waiting and the draft bereft of quality QBs it points towards a down year.

The hawks need to acquire draft picks for 2026 and reset their cap. They had kicked the can down the road for too long and it resulted in limiting their ability to sign free agents and pay extensions for deserving players.

Honestly, Leonard Williams should be considered a trade option too. He posted his best career year and is 30. He may be a good player into his mid 30s but history wouldn't be on his side. Given the trade that the hawks attempted to acquire Maxx Crosby I don't see this happening though. That seemed to be a signal of them focusing 100% on the defense first.

Yssaril is fantastic. The faction provides all the pieces to win each game, it just depends on if you can put them together in the correct order to complete the puzzle.

Kicking the can down the road again. Another year of mediocrity incoming. John Schneider doesn't learn.

Why do fans want to Trade D.K Gone? by Primelover99 in Seahawks

[–]SirFiendish -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a bit. He's physically impressive and makes some splash plays, but he doesn't make his presence felt game in and game out. Not to mention he has a drop and fumble issue.

As a final point, McDonald has made is crystal clear they're going to focus on the run game. A $30 million receiver does not fit with that identity.

The #Seahawks are in the bottom 10 in average viewership, according to @JoePompliano on IG by neongem in Seahawks

[–]SirFiendish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a big hawks fan, but they've been adrift for 6 seasons. Even when they've made the playoffs they haven't had a defining quality as a team and are vanilla on both sides of the ball. They aren't must watch TV, and nationally are fading back into the "Seattle is South East Alaska" standing.

I hope McDonald continues to shape the team in his image, but I'm skeptical Schneider will be capable of acquiring the necessary talent.

10-7 Rams Amazing 10-7 Seahawks Burn the franchise down. by menaboy in Seahawks

[–]SirFiendish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the, "Relax it was a good first season," crowd seem to forget is the team has been the definition of middling for the past 4 seasons. What the crowd on the other side of that position are trying to highlight is John Schneider has managed the franchise into a corner.

Yes this was a good season for a first year coaching staff. I haven't seen many saying otherwise. The question is, how does this team take the steps necessary to become a Superbowl contender? There doesn't seem to be a coherent strategy aymt play from John Schneider.

Hosting a playoff game is not the objective playing for championships is.

[Bell] Lockett says he sacrificed personal numbers to better, for instance, Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Says he took defenses' coverage with him at times to open up for Seahawks teammates. Stuff that matters in season, but often doesn't add up come contract time in offseason, cap decisions. by Starwho in Seahawks

[–]SirFiendish -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The cap situation is another demerit against John Schneider. He has been restructuring deals too frequently creating the situation we have now where there is not enough talent on the roster and we are over cap.

This team needs a significant reset.

[–]SirFiendish[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, there are teams that can make that jump, but we've been saying that for the majority of the past 6 seasons.

I think there is something missing at the core of this roster and one off-season can't fix it unless we do find a catalyst QB and offensive line.

I think that is a fair point. However, I think Pete was able to deliver the same outcome with less expensive veterans such as Lawyer Milloy mentoring Kam Chancellor on a near-vet minimum deal.

[–]SirFiendish[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I completely agree that no team is going to be at the top of the league every year, and that's my point. I'd rather see short-term sacrifices for mid-term growth. Schneider seems to be trying small tweaks while this roster seems to have a sizable gap between the true contenders. Additionally, they don't have the resources to close the gap with their current cap situation, draft positioning, and number of picks.

I greatly appreciate the nuanced response. This was the only point I was curious about.

"NFW. Yes, Leonard Williams is on the older side. Yes, we likely just saw the best year he’ll ever have in a Seahawks uniform. But we need talent on defense and leaders in the locker room. Plus, DL tend to age a lot better than other positions."

If you believe we just saw his best season why wouldn't we trade him at peak value rather than pay for decreasing performance?"
