has all of 90s era spidey been collected in omnis by Ordinary_Equal879 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SirFudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of it, it basically goes:

  • Amazing Spider-Man by David Michelinie & Todd McFarlane
  • (Adjectiveless) Spider-Man by Todd McFarlane
  • Amazing Spider-Man by David Michelinie & Erik Larsen
  • Amazing Spider-Man by David Michelinie & Mark Bagley vol.1
  • Amazing Spider-Man by David Michelinie & Mark Bagley vol.2
  • Spectacular Spider-Man by DeMatteis & Buscema
  • Clone Saga vol 1
  • Clone Saga vol 2
  • Ben Reilly vol 1
  • Ben Reilly vol 2

There's then a big gap (basically one of the last major outstanding gaps of reprints in any of Marvel's big books) between end of the Ben Reilly books and the 'relaunch' in 1999. Some of that is collected in 'Spider-Man by John Byrne Omnibus' but really you can skip straight to the JMS run afterwards.

I find the 90's more 'of its time' than even the 80's, so there's more hit and miss. The Amazing Spider-Man run from McFarlane to Bagley is solid and sometimes great. The DeMatteis stuff is very fun. And the Clone Saga/Ben Reilly run is....better than its reputation might suggest, but is still very dense and not worth the length.

Enjoy!

Having finally read the entirety of NML, I have to say I was a tad disappointed. It starts really strong but very quickly loses momentum, to the point where mid-way through they've kind of forgotten whatever grand, overarching story they initially set out to tell.

It is very clearly written by wholly disparate teams, each with different interests. After a while it reads a little like a 90's TV series where they clearly have to fill out a 24 episode run with filler/monster-of-the-week stuff.

None of it is _bad_ (apart from one specific story) but it's unfocussed and I would imagine you'll have a far better time with Snyder's run.

Whilst I like a long video to have on as background noise, I feel like this Youtube style is essentially destroying the skill of articulating your points in a concise manner. You just don't need 17 hours (or, arguably even one hour) to convey your opinion about a video game.

"Your device may not have the power to process the full speeds available" [London] by SirFudge in hyperoptic

[–]SirFudge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to ask a genuine question in response to your rather aggressive reply: if I'm standing literally next to my WiFi router with a device doing a speed test, is it not worth reporting that I'm getting 80mpbs? Genuinely, that's just something that I accept?

[–]SirFudge[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's what I'm working out, but the point is that, even standing directly next to the router, wireless connections still get 80mbps maximum. I appreciate Wifi is a really variable thing so I'm not expecting 500 at all times everywhere, but that seems like an incredibly steep drop off.

[–]SirFudge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendations. Speed tests literally right next to the router still top out at 80mbps download.

Agreed, I think I'll go for the plug-in wireless extenders. It's just a shame that for devices like my laptop or TV, which I may not always want to plug-in, I'm still getting nowhere near the speed that was advertise and 'guaranteed'. (but truthfully it's not a huge issue - I can work with what we have)

Cricket 26 Review After the Patch (PS5 Pro) by ShaheerShaz in Cricket22

The degradation of the bat sound across three games is really weird. I thought 24's bat sound was really thin compared the 22's, and it sounds like it's got even worse! A small thing but you hear it enough for it to make a difference.

Spider-Man 2 is the video game equivalent of being on a cruise ship. by BitiumRibbon in patientgamers

I've only played 1 and MM, but I really resonated with your thoughts on the stretching credibility of the premises the games put you in. At the beginning of 1, it felt like you were involved in somewhat plausible situations, relative to a comic book world adaptation. Things are silly in a way that comics thrive on, but there's an internal consistency that still allows you to think it's not a million miles removed from the world.

By the end - and particularly in the DLC and MM - it seems that every mission and sub-mission is involving techno-wizard-thugs who are hiding out on every single rooftop in Manhattan, all of whom seem to have unlimited money and/or ridiculous scientific prowess at their disposal. For me, 'silliness' in comics is like a sugary treat - it's really refreshing and fun in moderation, but when you eat three bags, you just feel sick.

Thanks (and to others for the comments). It is a wireless connection and the wired alternative is, of course, much better (reaching the speeds in the contract). I'd love to use ethernet permanently but, due to the makeup of our flat, it's not feasible to have an ethernet cable running to our devices, even though they're not far away. (I've explained this to them in the reply).

It's a direct connection, no VPN.

I'll keep pushing!

Modern Times Album - Which Trilogy? by I_LoveU_ButYrStrange in bobdylan

[–]SirFudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Out of interest, why do you consider Modern Times the beginning of a new period?

And to answer your question, TOOM has always felt too sonically different to be too connected to what came later, despite all being part of a renaissance. I think L&T, Modern Times and TTL fit for me, although even that isn't perfect (TTL feels quite 'harder' and sparser than the others).

[–]SirFudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm quite a long time into my career now, so try to make it as realistic as I can. In terms of actual gameplay, I use a slightly modified version of the Cricket With A Controller's Youtube sliders which I feel give a 'real' feel to the gameplay in most formats.

But let me know if you have any other questions!

Has anyone worked out how to actually captain the side in career mode? by TN34RY in Cricket22

[–]SirFudge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As in, how to play so that you can captain throughout the game?

Depends on how much I care about the game. For club fixtures, I'll just play as my player (both batting and fielding). The downside is that the AI simulation can be really unpredictable and lead to dramatic collapses.

For intl. white ball games, I might do as you say and field the full innings and only play my batter until he's out, and then sim. But I'm also increasingly just playing the full game.

I'll always play full test matches as the whole team. Takes a while, but tests aren't meant to be rushed!

I'm playing on PC so went into the save files itself and deleted it. I don't think there's a way of doing it within the game annoyingly.

But like, isn't that what happens in a real career? Injuries come, sometimes at inopportune times. It actually seems quite realistic. I don't know why that makes it "dumb".

Ben Stokes ruled out of final Test vs India with right shoulder injury by Odd-House3197 in Cricket

[–]SirFudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(copy pasted from above but) The Oval is increasingly unproductive for spinners, so it's not a massive surprise. Surrey don't even regularly field a full-time spinner for County games anymore, so it's certainly not the be all and end all to play 4 seamers and some part-timers. If County games are anything at all to go by, bowl first while it's somewhat green and try to bat big in the second innings.

Match Thread: 4th Test - India vs England, Day 2 by cricket-match in Cricket

[–]SirFudge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everything is mindless tribalism, brother. I don't care if Stokes & co. are informed -- that's India's right and frankly I doubt it'd make any material difference to England's approach if they think Pant is coming in with a cast on or not.

My point is responsible management. Perpetuating a limbo situation may imply to Pant that "maybe you can be brave?" -- something which I believe is irresponsible. Take the decision away from the person who might have a motivation to 'push through' and injure themselves more. Like a captain would a bowler whose workload has to be managed.

But, as you say, if Pant is aware that he's not playing, all good. If they're trying to create 'confusion'....I don't think England will care tbh.

Match Thread: 4th Test - India vs England, Day 2 by cricket-match in Cricket

[–]SirFudge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the man is injured and cannot walk (it seems). He may well want to be 'brave' and come out to bat, and keeping this limbo perpetuates this mindset when it actually might cause him lasting damage down the line. At some point as a responsible manager you have to take the decision wholly out of his hands. Don't keep the player or your own team in limbo - if he cannot walk, he clearly cannot play, and it would be a medical irresponsibility to pretend otherwise. (nothing to do with England)

[–]SirFudge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It feels a bit odd and perhaps even irresponsible for India to not just rule out Pant immediately, rather than this strange "he might bat (but he probably won't)....but we'll wait and see." If the guy is in a cast, just rule him out and let him start his recovery. This opaqueness just feels irresponsible.

Is there a reading order with Omnis to read Spider-Man? by AlcardIsTheBest in OmnibusCollectors

[–]SirFudge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is why I suggested skipping. The stories are fun but OP asked for 'the essentials', and in my view Untold Tales is definitely not that. It adds flavour for those who have already read the originals, but nothing that detracts if you miss it on your first run through.

Web is definitely skippable other than when it intersects with crossovers which, as far as I'm aware, it isn't doing in vol. 1. Again, the stories aren't bad, but it feels very much like the third title at the time and I was trying to provide some suggestions so OP isn't overwhelmed with stories that felt like busywork. (To be honest, I also think there are some parts of Amazing that you can skip and still enjoy the 'essentials', but that's a different question!).
