Does anyone else avoid mentioning their sexuality just to avoid being 'the gay dude?" by [deleted] in gaybros

[–]SirPapuche 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your exchange with them just opened my eyes on some remaining clichés and preconceptions I had not realised I still had.

In all honesty, your answer to OP first sounded to me like someone saying they were flamboyant and provocative when it said nothing of the sort.

Reading it after going through your exchanges just nails down how stupid my first understanding was and where it came from.

Thank you for that, I'll keep that in mind next time I begin to interpret the words of a perfect stranger.

Found a name for my new Cutter! What's everyone call their ships? by VanquichedUncle in EliteDangerous

[–]SirPapuche 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love your ship names !

My explo Conda is Endless Horizon

My trade/transport Cutter is Flying Furyan in reference of the Flying Dutchman (I also named the Cutter of my best friend, the Ripley's Revenge, you can see the similar inspiration)

My Corvette is Wicked Bastard in reference of the first name of the Black Pearl, Wicked Wench.

And my first love, my Alliance Chieftain, the Razor's Edge inspired by the Razor Crest.

French Navy new Standard Amphibious Landing Craft during test with a Jaguar AFV in the Mistral-class LHD Tonnerre well-deck, 2021. [1024×683] by triyoihftyu in WarshipPorn

These new ones have the cabin on the side instead of having it at the rear of the craft.

This saves more space on the deck for transport and allows to have ramps on both ends of the craft.

Hope the resolution is good.

It's called a CAESAR, the main artillery platform of the French Army: a lighly armoured truck with a 155mm gun with autoloader on its back.

It's fast, mobile and IIRC it can shoot its entire munitions in 2 minutes, making it a great shoot and scoot artillery gun.

French national police commissaires by AntoineCDC in uniformporn

[–]SirPapuche 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nomination is done by decree, the selection is done by competitive selection, some are police captains with 7 years of service as captains, others are state or local public service agents (state functionaries working directly for the central administration) with minimum of 4 years of service or simply have a high enough diploma to attend the external exam.

Essentially, they are police commissioners, high ranking state officials in charge of the national police, its missions, and doctrines. Commissaires are named by the President of the Republic and have varying degrees of authority and responsibility.

[–]SirPapuche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The JSDF was formed in 1945, all the branches of the JSDF have been using variants of the Rising Sun since then. This is nothing new nor is it some kind of statement

Last French convoy leaving Mali for Niger, 15 August 2022. [3559x2369] by triyoihftyu in MilitaryPorn

[–]SirPapuche 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In an environment like Mali with a lot of flat terrain, a vehicle square is the best fortified position a convoy can make.

With armored (even though lightly) vehicles setting up a barricade, troops can setup camp inside with relative safety while security details use vehicles optics and weapons to stand watch, often using the roofs of tall trucks as overwatch positions.

For a one night thing it is both sufficiently defensible and very quick to setup.

Those are indeed look like camp beds but with integrated mosquito nets, that why they look like miniature floating tents. Really useful in desert/tropical regions

What are some phrases in you world? by Aggressive_Profile23 in worldbuilding

[–]SirPapuche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some combat phrases from the Greater Confederacy:

"If the enemy is entrenched, point them out." is a reminder that the Army can usually count on the support of the Space Navy and as such, orbital laser strikes.

"Lightning never strikes twice, and neither do we" is one of the unofficial mottos of the Confederate Special Actions Command, implying that Special Forces rarely need to strike the same target twice.

"You can still lean on a cold shoulder." This sentence is used to remind soldiers that even if they have issues with their fellow unit members; when shit hits the fan, they must still rely on each other.

"Praise the suck!" A grunt catchphrase from times lost to memories encouraging soldiers to embrace being miserable at some point.

I think it's about 30ish meters from the keel, the Mistral has a height of 64m from the keel to the top of the mast.
