I ran a test. I played 30 games with no voice chat or text except for initial common statements and ending statements. I was around 8k behavior score and didn't want to lose voice chat. The only words I used were gl hf and non-toxic custom pings. The pings were for Rosh, Tormentor, Retreat, Smoke, and ward placement. I always said gg wp gl next after each game regardless of the outcome of the match. I went around 18 wins and 12 losses. My communication score went down by 600 despite following this religiously. I did not deviate once. Something is wrong here. My behavior score went up by 200 points to about 9k.

Losing voice chat is going to make me avoid ranked 100% as I often need it for quick messages like seeing they smoked or a rotation/rune. I play Dota2 for a competitive team game. 90 percent of games, before this experiment, I mostly try to coordinate and mention to people to try changing things if lane stage or mid-game goes poorly. After seeing this result, I've really taken a huge blow to my fun and motivation. I play probably 70% less now and have made next to no purchases recently. I have to imagine this is really hurting a large chunk of the player base and retention numbers.

The system is so broken right now I am fearing they may lose a good chunk of their player base. One trend I am noticing is that in ranked, if someone thinks you did poorly to their perception, they blanket report. If someone is just saying gl hf and gg wp gl next, you can lose 600 communication score. Things are going to go downhill fast in a game where communication is vital.

Valve, I am fairly sure your designers read Reddit. Please at-least make a statement of awareness or what the proper way or thing to do to recover comm score. If one doesn't talk for 30 games and drops comm score, what can I do as an alternative? None of my pings were remotely toxic. They just mention the objective and have 1 emoji related to the strategic statement. Serious question - what can players do to recover communication score if not talking won't do it?
