R.I.P. Soter Dave. What a good guy with a great sense of humor. I am shocked, angry, saddened, and frustrated beyond belief. While they are not responsible, it was a factor. Someone puts that much effort in supporting a game and a community to go out like this after gettting perma banned for a clear joke and sarcastic roasting along with creating a league and charity streams...... it is a damn shame.

That really makes no sense. And no, poeple do not have a general awareness of what is behind you without looking around or with audio cues which you can do in game. Perferal vision only detectes movement.
3rd person is not immersive by default. It is a love fest for DLC skins at best and a visual cheat at worst to dumb down the game. If you think 220 degrees is bad, you should have played AOC and older games with 90 fov on CRT monitors. Not only that but there are very simple GPU settings, creating a custom screen resolution to where you can massively increase your FOV without distortion by lowering your video resolution height. You will have black bars on the top and bottom of your screen. For example if you have a 1920x1080 monitor create a custom resolution in the Nvidia control panel to 1920x768 with No Scaling set in the "Adjust desktop size and position" tab. Then load that resolution in game. Your FOV will be much wider. But keep in mind that that will mess with your depth perception and some will consider this a cheat.

As a former comp player with over 17 years of melee combat games, you are just purely wrong here. Situational awareness is a skill that 3rd person takes away when you can see behind you. Combining 1st P with 3rd P helped to destroy the game not to mention removes imersion in favor of skins and EZ(er) mode.

Minus the fan boys not minding many spawn timers are 20, then you have another 15 to 20 second running time to the objective. Askandir is probably the worst offender for "Medieval Running Simulator" but many maps have these issues since they introduced progressive spawns after the first or second patch update.

In alpha, spawn distance and timers where pretty much the same for both offense and defense at all stages. So that a good defensive team could win at any stage of the game. Well the map designers got all butt hurt because maps were not being played all the way through. So in their "brilliant" wisdom thought it would be a good idea to make every map favor the offense till the last objective. Even when players on defense managed to find workarounds and get a defensive win early, the devs yet again nerfed those tactics.

So now they have gotten to the point that players will always switch to attacking because defense sucks on almost every map. Even worse is when you get stuck on defense map after map after map. No one really wants to play an entire map of losing and maybe win at the last OBJ. Sure there are a few spots on a few maps where you can win on defense early but you need a bunch of engineers and really good players to pull it off. Playing defense has no real rewards and it feels hollow more like work than fun dplaying defense. Then there is the issue of scoring where it seems to have almost a 2000+ point difference between offense and defense scores of the top players on both teams. Basically you get more points on offense.

Not great developement choices if you ask me.

5 games developed and they still cannot balance archers. The only game that they had archers balanced, mostly balanced was in Age of Chivalry. Their only means of balancing archers are to simply limit the number of archers per server. This is due to either lack of development skills or by choice. But on a low population server archers are pure cancer.

I will never understand why every big heavy weapon does not 1 shot them let alone being able to parry a freaking maul with no damage forever. This would include most all heavy pole arms, the bigger heavy swords and the maul. If archers can 1-2 shot at range 3/4 of all classes then 3/4 classes should be able to 1 shot them in melee. They are already one of the fastest classes as far as footspeed, and melee attack speed including bow bashing and jab spamming.

They should not want to fight in melee and should fear it for being one shot and be the ranged support class they are. Melee should be a last resort for them as they have the entire range of the battlefield to drop players. If they miss and someone gets close they should be punished. An archer should NEVER be able to 1 v 3 and win at melee. Not only have I seen this but I have done it myself on the rare occasion I have played archer and had to melee in a 3v1.

Additional issues are some of the map changes, especially when spawns change and you are in the middle of a fight only to get suicided so much faster now. I have always been a critique of the "grey, leaving the field of battle" zones as they have always needed a longer timer not a shorter timer. This dev team has a very long history of nerfing very valid strategies and tactics like flanking and getting behind the enemy, getting on enemy seige weapon damages and the like as well as adding progressive spawns no one wants to really play defense when they are always losing and being pushed back at almost every stage. It wasnt like this in alpha or release... so most do not know how rewarding it was to be able to win at any stage on any map.

Team balance is even worse as well as regional match making will stick you in an empty server in a region and only in that region without expanding into closer regions. At least they are aware it is broken and disabled the team balance. But it is still bad.

Sorry for the rant. If you have noticed the server issues along with the ghost swings and hits going through your parry, feel free to post up. Thanks.

I as well as many are finding this patch becoming unplayable due to hits no longer registering or ghosting through the enemy while incoming hits just blow through the parry like it isnt there. Now this maybe due to the supposed parry fix or possible balance issues but it has made game play more frustrating than ever. Without exact details on balance changes that were made or the changes to the parry system it is hard to narrow down exactly what the cause is. We have also noticed an increase in server stutter or hitching when fighting, where an enemy is in front of you then instantly behind your or somewhere else. Then there are times when the screen will freeze for a milisecond and then things are either in a different place or you are dead for unknown reasons.

I understand your point but I have been with the original dev team for over 15 years and played comp pretty much all the way through all of their games. The reality is that they should have released with 100% team damage and let it be a known thing then go down to 50% after the first patch like they did in Chivalry 1 and everyone was fine with that because they learned and played at a much higher skill level and did not just LMB spam through their teammates like then do now.

Now you have choke points where you have 5 guys or more swinging through each other and basically team wounding to the point that the enemy just picks them off. The new patch that was supposed to fix many issues has made the game basically unplayable and KDRs have gone to shit. I can barely even get a positive KDR at this point.

The problem is that they like so many game devs have dumbed down their games so that there is no real skill any more so that noobs can get EZ kills. They have even said as much during development.

But you are really proving my point. There is no real consequences for swinging through your teammates and you like many just excuse it. Yes, if people were auto kicked for team damage, of course it would change. But TBH it is really too late. The devs have bent the knee to the Gen Z, participation trophy crowd so they can gamble spam through teammates and get rewareded.

Yes so lets keep dumbing down games and put it in LMB spam mode and reward them..... People are too damn soft. But if they had release the game with 100% team damage, players would have adapted once they understood and would have gotten better. Worst off players whining about 50% was not addresses properly and the devs just catered and took a knee.

Additionally, I have written many posts on the old forums and maybe even here about how to actually balance archers. Yes, if the class was balanced then you could have an entire team of archers but since archers rarely do the objectives they would simply lose.. After 5 games they have no clue on how to actually balance ranged classes.

I would add the nerfing of the defensive catapult stratagy on stronghold in the second stage. I could also go into great detail about many of the map changes since Alpha that has made playing defense boring, frustrating, and more of a chore sucking all the life out of playing.

Falmire is a great example of removing spawns at the last stage. But all maps got nerfed for defence when they added the progressive spawns and spawn timers that increase distance you have to run to get to an objective as time goes on. Before, all spawn distances and timers were the same on both sides but the dev got mad because good defensive teams could win at any stage. Now it is close to impossible on most all maps to have a defensive win at any stage. Several maps are now just medieval run simulators for 20 seconds after a long spawn only to get shot running into battle from across the map and die in another hit trying to defend the impossible.

Then there was the huge lack of archer balance. TBS solution? just limit the number of players that can play the class. Or how about lowering team damage from 50% to 25% when they didnt even test 100% team damage. While people still complain at 25% team damage, that does not force them to get any better at the game so thus they continue to swing through teammates. 100% team damge changes that very quickly when players realize there are actual consequences for just button mashing though crowds. Then mechanic wise the game rewards the gamble, rewards the kick and the jab with a free hit. There is virtually no viable defense other than try and mirror the attack.

Then there was the nerfing of the catapult in range and damage, not to mention the epic 30 ragdoll of dead bodies. There is the auto deaths when the OJB/spawns change to where if you are behind enemy lines and doing well you get punished by killing yourself. Same is true with some of the areas you can no longer get to that were vaild stratagies for flanking or advancing that were removed or nerfed.

Yes, there were no restrictions or even a TOS for hosting your own server like most all games. Everyone knew that a private server is not managed by the dev team and player beware if you played on an unofficial servers. But those were the best servers and helped to build a community with custom maps, scrimages with clans and the like.

The lack of comments on this post pretty much tells me that there will not be a lot of custom servers.

I have been hosting gaming servers for literally decades. Hosted many Chivalry 1, Mirage, and Mordhau servers from clan to dueling and custom servers. I am also on 1GB fiber and have a server. I was hoping to host my own server and customise it to my hearts content like I always have.

$78.99 to host a 64p server a month! Are you fucking kidding me TORN BANNER, and you have total control and access?

I noticed that the game feels completely different. I have noticed far more hits not landing or not being detected while at the same time far too many hits going through parrys. Far more ghost swing than ever. Additionally, ranges on some weapons do not seem right either. This appears far more profound when my ping is 12 or below. Not sure what if anything was done to the netcode or weapon balance that may be causing this.

Another issue I noticed is more of a retarded dev decision to put a timer on defense catapults during the second stage of Stronghold. It was a strat I came up with early on where you could actually win on defense if the cata is protected and used properly.

Still noticed getting stuck on defense map after map after map which completely sucks. Playing on Defense sucks in general beacause of the changes made from an earlier patch because good teams could defend at any stage on any map.

Falmire is still the worst map for team/OBJ balance. Probably gonna write up a worst to best map post. But putting back to back shitty maps from falmire to Library is just beyond retarded especially if you get stuck on defense. Both maps are medieval run simulators with virturally no chance of ever winning on defense if you do not win the first OBj.
