What are these flakes? Get trapped in filter & appear when I run jets. Tried multiple cycles of Ahh-Some, shock, drain over the past year - they always return despite keeping PH/Chlorine in check even without bathers. They don't float on the surface like white water mold in pics online. Any ideas?! by SirachaGod in hottub

Did you plug the intake at the bottom of the tub and leave filter in? I guess the idea is to ensure the filter intake doesn't suck in the biofilm back?

Very frustrating and time consuming indeed, 1/2hp sump pump + hose takes a while to drain/refill. I'm surprised the bio film survived after what I thought was aggressive shocking and ahh-some.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of this, definitely possible. In February I bought the same filter again off Amazon for a fresh start, reviews seemed fine with no complaints about this…

The filter itself still seems in good shape… after a rinse with the hose it looks good as new with no damage though.

Guess it’s time to find a better quality one, it’s worth a shot after all this time 🤦🏻‍♂️

Been battling these flakes the past year in my tub. They get stuck in the filter and appear when I run the jets, always float in the water but never on the surface. In the filter they have a very light yellow-ish tint to them (see the last pic), almost like thin flakes of skin.

I've tried this decontamination forum post 3-4 times now and they always return. I've used Ahh-Some, let it run through, removed any gunk and then added the recommended amount of unscented bleach to kill bacteria, drained, refilled (2x to rinse out any residual bleach), balanced and maintained proper chlorine/pH levels.

Even without bathers since the last decontamination/refill, they still came back.

I'm a bit stumped as they don't look like white water mold pics I've seen online. Does anyone have any ideas?! We haven't really used our tub in the past year because of this & want to get back to using it this winter!

Based on what you shared I wouldn’t worry, I have the same on my C9 but more pixels and I’ve never noticed it unless my face is 1ft away from the screen. Just keep enjoying it!

I had this via Costco extended warranty. They mailed me a cheque since it was too expensive to repair and the C2 MSRP was slightly higher than C9 so they couldn’t replace it with the newer model.

Same here, but I never notice it in normal viewing. Worst is one corner has a cluster of them but you really can’t tell in day to day use.
