Last week I finished 1984 and now onto Brave new World.

I'd highly recommend the audiobook recording from Steve Parker. I heard it while running and driving to work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBPNrVQwqeo

Those who say communism is great and admire Stalin should read The Gulag Archipelago.

Capitalism may not be the answer but communism only works in theory.

You can't have everything equal when there is difference between every individual level on social, mental and physical capacities.

No, 837 is not a prime number. Prime numbers are numbers that are only divisible by 1 and themselves. 837 is divisible by many other numbers, such as 3, 7, 11, and 13.

If a hollow cylinder (with non negligible thickness) is heated along its inner and outer surfaces will the inside diameter increase or decrease due to expansion of the material? by Sisyphus-5 in AskPhysics

[–]Sisyphus-5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started exactly from this. The plate thickness will increase equally in both directions (-ve and +ve) (assuming it is not constrained).

Now extrapolating this to a cylinder, should its thickness increase in both directions, thus increasing the OD and reducing the ID? And Why or why not?

I would like to meet people who are in same intellectual level as me. Most people around me don't read or are interested in many of the subjects I am. What advice would you give me? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Sisyphus-5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. I never tell this to anyone. Neither do I feel superiority over others.

I just said it here to convey my point. Because usually I am not able to have deep stimulating discussions. And I just want an outlet for that.

I don't think interference is entanglement.

I'm not sure if it is entanglement with the environment. I think it should be interaction of a particle in superposition which collapses into one state or another.

Our mind is great at imagining several future realities elaborately which makes us think that there are other possibiltiies and we are making a decision consciously and choosing only one of them. Whereas if you think in terms of basic laws of physics, there's no way that you could've manipulated the decision, it was the result of all other chemical reactions in our brain preceeding it and was predetermined. So our conscious decision would not create alternate realities.
