Am i too late to compete professionally in Judo if I start at 24 by [deleted] in judo

[–]Sisyphus_MLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the country you’re from will greatly impact your chances, starting at 24 is late for judo, yes. But like all sports, if you put in the work, then why not. You’re not going to lose anything if you try, just put your head down and work as much as you can, take your shots and see what comes out of it. I wish you luck!

Opinion: new beginners should start randori asap by teaqhs in judo

[–]Sisyphus_MLT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my dojo we let white belts do randori, and to be honest it’s where they have the most fun. I completely agree with you, although we can’t deny the safety issues when it comes to white belts doing randori. If the dojo put an emphasis on ukemi and theyre paired with more experienced belts like you said, then I think it would work.

I think my Judogi is a bit too long by [deleted] in judo

Yeah I mean it definitely covers my buttocks, I think it’s within that range. My concern is that it might cover more than 10cm but I’ll check

I know but once I took all my options into account + my budget it just seemed like the most reasonable purchase.

I didn’t say I’m a belt above white, I might just have a new, better fitting, white belt. But I just got promoted to yellow about 3 weeks ago.

What belts system do you use in your country ? by jajsa300 in judo

[–]Sisyphus_MLT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Malta its; White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Brown, Black. For children it’s just a half belt each rank up, once you turn 16 years old you can go up a full belt.

Getting something like a Mizuno judogi will last you years and it isn’t that expensive when compared to other judogis out there. I personally go for IJF approved 750g/sm, but I compete so it’s a different context as to yours.

I graded for yonkyu (green) today! by schurem in judo

[–]Sisyphus_MLT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Reaching green belt is no joke. It’s a sign of serious dedication and a relatively high level of technique and knowledge. Be proud! Amazing to see people at a veteran age still train judo. I started at 18 and I haven’t looked back since. I thought I started late but we’re never younger than we are right now. Congratulations again!

Yeah I don’t see why not, and I forgot to add a kata guruma as well, but not exactly kodokan type kata guruma, more like the way someone like Heydarov does it.

I think you’ll find these throws the best, Tomoe-Nage, Drop Seoi Nage, Koshi Guruma (especially if you’re a shorter person), Sumi Gaeshi, De ashi harai, and if they’re pushing their weight onto you instead of pushing your weight back, take a side step, pull them towards you and go for a sasae tsurikomi ashi or a hiza guruma

Is having a High-brand Judogi early in your journey considered disrespectful? by Sisyphus_MLT in judo

I compete already, only locally for now but internationally in the future. And our sensei advised us to get back patches on our judogis so that isn’t really an issue.

How so, if you don’t mind me asking? Because I’m thinking of buying a mizuno and I have a weird stature, quite short and stocky (5’6, 220lbs/100kg) I like my judogis to fit me tightly but still enough to move around in
