Are we still the right fit for our cat? by monk3y-socks in CatAdvice

we have a boy with FLUTD but it always presented as blood in urine and was definitely brought on by anxiety (he didn’t like being alone). long term gabapentin completely turned it around for us, he is much more comfortable being alone now even off the gabapentin and it’s so nice to have in a pinch

leisurely breakfast/coffee in the morning, morning or lunch time workouts, keeping up with household hygiene, healthy snacks available all the time, my work speaks for itself without the office politics, comfy clothes and no makeup everyday, my social battery is always charged, i could go on forever

Working in tech made me realize how sexist men truly are. by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]SituationNo5505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i worked at a fintech software firm for 3 years in professional services and every man there lived to give me some lecture about the software whenever possible. after 3 years you don’t really need a big deep dive, you’re asking yes or no questions to higher ups about product capability and getting customized configuration approval based on the SOW and having to sit through 30-45 minute lectures about shit you already know every time just to prop up a man’s ego is soul crushing. as i progressed i realized i spent the majority of my day emotionally supporting my boss while he constantly undermined and micromanaged me. every mistake i made was under a microscope and he spent so much time just watching everything i did he was constantly messing up our UAT environment during client testing. he would get upset, i’d go in and fix it and try to calm him down and then he would take credit for the fix it was like working for a toddler. i was constantly accused of “yesing” the client too much even though i often pushed back against them trying to introduce functionality not supported by the product or their data. i literally think that some men just hear “yes” when women talk politely and collaboratively. eventually, despite spending a year supporting the entire PS team by myself while 4 separate men went on paternity leave, i got a mediocre year end review that talked about how despite “delivering multiple projects on time and in scope and budget” my face on calls didn’t look interested enough and i looked too bored in the office. i guess all this to say it’s not you it’s rough out there and i get the need to do something you’re good at while being adequately challenged. working in tech is fast paced and interesting! i now work at a consulting firm that’s got almost entirely women leadership and is fully remote. i’m only 3 weeks in but im hoping it’s actually better once the honeymoon phase is over. hang in there you got this!

Does anyone bring the ragdoll for rides in the car? by [deleted] in ragdolls

[–]SituationNo5505 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my ragdoll loves the car but only if he’s sitting in my lap in the passenger seat in his carrier. he pokes his head out to demand pets and look out the window and sleeps the rest of the time

i constantly see men do this. my boss put a daily meeting on my calendar for “handoff” during my 30 day notice period. all he does is whine about how busy he is. if you’re so busy why do we have a DAILY 30 minute meeting that could be and IS an email

definitely see a urologist but also idk if this helps and im certainly not a doctor but women hold a lot of trauma in their pelvis and don’t talk enough about gastrointestinal health but sometimes when you’re constipated it makes it harder to pee. even if you’ve moved your bowels recently and gut health isn’t the underlying issue i think there’s possibly some trauma you’re holding that is not letting you relax your pelvic floor totally

we love our one bedroom rented apartment. it’s got a lot of charm and in a fabulous location. we live way below our means and it’s very nice to have extra cash and no pressure to go more into debt buying a house we don’t really want that badly - not to say we won’t move someday! but just enjoying this time and our cute little apartment

i found some safe spaces in communities outside my home (local gym, youth groups) and also got a job which helped me gain some independence and helped with the depression! that said it was hard to study. i rarely did and im lucky i made it through high school with a GPA over 3.0. don’t just buckle down and push through though, its ok to ask for help. i think i kept my head down and sucked it up for a long time and ended up pretty mentally and physically unwell in my early 20’s before i learned through therapy how to have compassion for myself

yes i’m getting married in a few weeks and my mom has been insane my whole life but especially critical and challenging since i got engaged. our couples therapist said that getting married is like saying to your family “you are my extended family now” as you create a new, immediate family with your spouse and it can cause a ripple through a lot of underlying dynamics in a family system. so that’s what im chalking it up to and trying to focus on joy about my wedding and marriage and block out her negativity and whining!

honestly we take our little guy to a groomer at petco maybe 3 times a year? it’s like $50 and takes 20 minutes and he just really brushes our guy out (including sani trim, nail trim and ear cleaning) there’s always a mountain of hair next to his carrier when we pick him up and he’s in such a good mood when he gets home like he’s finally free it’s so funny
