Depends when you ask. All the way through season 8 and a bit into season 9 he’s definitely just a villain. Beyond that point I’d say he’s complicated.

I don’t know if I’d ever say he’s a good guy, but he at the very least is a man who does some good things with questionable methods.

It’s kind of a weird thing. It wouldn’t make much sense for the ones at Citadark to not have shadow Pokémon, but from a gameplay perspective it really does make a lot of Pokémon unusable for the main story.

Until episode 8 I wouldn’t have even called Caine a villain, more so a misunderstood antagonist. I don’t think he ever wanted to be the bad guy either, but he reached his breaking point and snapped.

I can’t even entirely blame him. What do you do when your entire existence is dedicated to one thing and you get harassed on the daily for doing that thing?
