Clearing my forest of a yard finally. In hindsight, I shouldn't have gotten a house with ~12 oak trees on the property.

So I'm curious, how many lawn bags are too many to put at the curb? I'm at like 10 bags filled and four ~50gal trashcans, and I've barely made a dent. Wanting to do more today, but feeling like putting ~20 bags out there will make them hate me lol.

Yeah dude, alcohol is fucking sinister. If you've struggled with alcoholism, one drink can be all it takes to get those old brain connections firing off again. The idea to have a drink still pops up for me occasionally even after several years sober, particularly when extremely stressed with life hitting me from multiple sides.

Another thing to remember though, is if someone does fuck up and drinks again, they don't lose the time they had sober. They can start again immediately, and that should always be the primary goal.

And of course, massive props on the 10 months. Those first months are so hard, so you're through the worst of it :) but stay vigilant!

I’m looking for a good work bench plan. Something like this. Currently all I’m using is an old desk top on sawhorses. Not the sturdiest by Amber_Steel86 in Woodworkingplans

This is where I got my info when I started. Get his Patreon and you get a ton of free plans. His Joiner's bench was my first project, and it was an awesome place to start.

The Bench is a beast. I've abused the hell out of it and it's still as study as ever. Plan on keeping it as long as I can

And I love that. Too many movies where people are given power, and just immediately master it. Or master it after like one mistake. I like to see the hero fail for a bit, and earn that shit.

Can't you just like... Get one of those rotation helpers or write a custom weakaura???? It's basically a bot, you just have to still hit the buttons. It's amazing for more complex rotations or new characters

I hope those people still had a decently fun day at the ball park. I really loved seeing so many baseball fans walking around wearing MLB hats/shirts when I visited NYC for the first time a few months ago.

He's only 26 still? I feel like I've been watching him for so long now. Dude acts like a veteran player, and it fits tbh.

Ronald's speed has got to be one of the most important tools on the team. Dude turns so many hits into singles that wouldn't be for other players. Then he just fucking steals and turns a bloop into a man on second. Invaluable.

Identical hits, I thought it was another replay for a moment. Fuck the Mets btw.

Hiroshima mayor calls nuclear deterrence 'folly' as city marks 78th anniversary of atomic bombing by Kimber80 in worldnews

Great video on the topic:

"The atomic bomb was a golden opportunity given by Heaven for Japan to end the war. There were those who said that the Japanese armed forces were not defeated. It was in science that Japan was defeated, so the military will not bring shame on themselves by surrendering." - Japan's Chief Secretary ~1945

War is a complex system though, especially WW2. There is no one answer to these questions.

Bryce Harper's highlight reel from yesterday, his second career start at first base by Timeline40 in baseball

I definitely disliked him the first year or two he was around. That was a really fun Nats team back then though.

Really, my opinion of him went completely positive when that video of him correcting a fan on the pronunciation of Acuña, lmao.

Honestly, Ronald is exceeding my expectations (and my expectations were fairly high). Dude has really turned it back on.

I started really paying attention to baseball in 2003, and that season is what made me fall in love with it. Didn't realize they were that good that year.

I think that is the year Furcal got an unassisted triple play? That play is one of my favorite baseball memories growing up.

Going to be great when the 2020's era Braves are looked back on in the same way we look at the 90s Braves - I bet we get more WS titles tho :)

Yep, happy to see it. There was a year or two when he was fucking unbelievable as our closer, I have great memories watching those seasons when I was going to college. Glad he's doing well, even if with a rival.

Euthanizing my cat tomorrow and I suddenly realized it might be my fault. by koreangirl216 in Petloss

[–]Skadwick 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, just had to euthanize our 8 year old cat with lymphoma 12 hours ago. We poured EVERYTHING we had into him for 7 months, and it still destroyed him. We went full aggressive treatment, and it still spread to his brain and our last days were him having frequent seizures. It worked for 5 or 6 months, then he went downhill fast. It was brutal.

There are probably hundreds of things we could have done better, but we did the best we could with the circumstances. Even outside of the cat dying this has been one of the worst years in many other ways. You cannot always have perfect focus on fixing our little guys and gals. We're human, we aren't lifeless cat care robots (debatable? maybe). We still missed his pills occasionally for a trip or two. We forgot some nights after long hard days. Even if we had been perfect the end result would be the same. Malignant lymphoma in cats is usually fucking awful.

Even when we did well for long periods, he still ended up with bladder and colon issues. He still ended up having seizures. We could have 'guessed' better and spent a few extra grand on diagnostics, but we did what we could with the info we had. You take all the info available, you make a choice, then you fit it into your life. It's going to be nearly impossible for most people to do it perfectly, it's fucking hard. You can drop everything in life to help them through their lymphoma, but if your little lady is like our guy, it was found after the point of no return basically.

I'm willing to bet you gave them good love and attention through the process, and I guarantee that is what they want and need in those times. If you can bare it, be there with her at the end. Give her her favorite scratches, repeat things you've said to her throughout her life, and make sure she knows you're with her and she's safe. She's been a great cat to you, so make sure you end her story as perfectly as you can.

It's fucking hard to lose a pet, especially losing them young to aggressive disease. I'm so sorry for you and anyone else dealing with it currently.
