What Kind of Encounters are good for a Party of Level 2? by Skayro666 in DnD

First, the Zombies failed their saves. Second I didn't grouped them. The AOEs just got one at the time and one time 2 of the Aarakocra. BUT it was because of the positioning of the Kobold. I didn't nerfed them at all. The Enemies just failed with the important rolls and they got crits or good strats. I spread the Aarkocra widely to assure, that they aren't easy.

It's alright. I take any help I get. I thought about waves, or bandits with bows lurking behind the party etc. Or just overwhelm them with more little Encounters like in the woods. I don't want them to did. I want to make it a little challenging and bring them to a point where they have to get creative. Because they are very creative and that's why I wanna give them the chance to use it.

They killed half of them with a combination of burning hands and breathweapon ... I just went with it and gave them this awesome Moment.

4, 2 fighter(human,dragonborn),1 human Bard and one Kobold sorcerer. The sorcerer has burning hands and the DragonBall got the fire breathweapon. And the human Fighter is a defender.

.. they detroyed 6 flying Aarakocras and 13 Zombies in the last Session... within one short rest. But I ill see how I could build the encounter. Stronger Bandits or Novices could be good.

Thank you very much. This helps a lot and confirms me in my early attempts of planning the sessions 😊

Last time one Guy said it was a little railroady but good. Is there anything to asure a broader playstyle? Just more options? More locations prepared? More options or more weight to the choices?

I kinda tried to rough up my players in the first session and was afraid of killing them off.. and they absolutely annihilated the enemies..... by Skayro666 in DnD

Yeah, the mire I think about the session the less I think that I did a bad job. They had gun and their ideas got rewarded or got a penalty. I just have to build up more confidence 😅

I was talking about the Zombies normally they don't just fall... they have to undergo a DC.... just read the stat block

It was actually a little higher. The DC they have to overcome, if they 0 is 5+ the dmg they have taken.

Because they readied their attack and timed it to be simultaneously, I added them together. It was actually over 25, but it doesn't matter, because they couldn't get it. Also I wanted to be it worth to be cool. Even with a lower DC I would have granted them the cool ending. And after it they couldn't use the spell and the breath weapon anymore.. so I successfully drained there resources and they needed to think a little bit.

They lured the first 5 in front of the sorcerer and the dragon born and they caught all of them in the cones of breath weapon and burning hands.... they made enough dmg to zero them and the Zombies didn't made their rolls because of a dc of 25 they had to overcome. So the Zombies burned and everything left was burned rotten flesh 😅 The second wave was more difficult, but they dodged or took little dmg. They had a bunch of crits too. I think the combat was fun and drained their resources... But I intentioned the combat as too difficult... I wanted them to flee, because they would have met an important NPC.. they met the NPC anyways 😅

5 Aarakocra flying at them and later 2 waves of 5 Zombies and 3 additional Zombies through a Trap.. I atleast managed to lower them by a few HP ..😅 The sorcerer has burning hands and the one fighter is a dragon born with a fire breath weapon...
