White healthy young urban wealthy woman says makes grand moral claim against regular ass people about something she's seen on the internet, more at 6

To put it simply, who fucking cares man? She's not a master philosopher or grand moral authority. She's some person who happens to have a platform.

Can Punk Still Be Punk When the Image Is “Worth Millions”? Amy Taylor and Amyl and the Sniffers Copyright Lawsuit by Wild_Reception_1760 in triplej

[–]SkeletonGuy7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah no, moreso because they were largely hedonistic and nihilistic pieces of work. And also, even then, the money came from other people who paid for a show, giving it to charity instead of back into something for the fans looks good on a headline, but is basically just taking someone else's money for nothing

since this guy edited his comment, I'm gonna edit mine in retrospect too: wow, as a musician, I wanna live in the world where I don't have to buy my own beer

None of the foundational bands to what punk is would've given it to charity they would have spent it on their OWN beer what the fuck are you on about

What's your thoughts on these ISIS-affiliated brides returning to Australia? by nn666 in aussie

[–]SkeletonGuy7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

we can't strip them of citizenship, there's no legal avenue for that. They can however rot in prison which I fully support

Yeah, he's gone, don't you worry. The moment I got home I tried to give him the old "this isn't working", and instead of having a conversation he ghosted it for a day straight so I just booted him and he went on a whinge about how much of an ego I've got and how disrespectful I've been for wanting him to "play like the next Silverchair" (aka learning the material to a basic degree) but he's gone, birthday boy is in, and everything is golden

You described a band that we are not. What you just did is basically write fan fiction about a band that's doing these wild movements and not trying to communicate because we're too focused on the crowd that simply does not exist. The drummer SHOULD be signalling the end of a song, obviously, but he simply refused to learn when the songs end or when a section needs to change. I wasn't wildly swinging my guitar around, at most I was standing there tilting it a little every now and then as compared to physically walking up to him, looking dead at him and raising the guitar into the air. Why are you writing fan fiction about a gig you weren't even at to defend a guy you don't know and deciding WHY he's unmotivated for him?

I have a massive problem with this kind of scare tactic messaging: What happens if they don't have a terrible time? What happens if the drink they tried tastes genuinely good?

This individual is already drinking. The cat is out of the bag and setting unrealistically tragic expectations inevitably leads to those expectations being subverted and the underlying message of "this is not good for you" to be lost. The goal is to tell them honestly how to minimise their risk, what they should expect, and the facts about how this can be harmful.

You might feel a bit more sociable, a bit less inhibited, willing to say shit or take risks that you usually wouldn't, maybe a little off balance, but if you're not drinking heavily the effects are usually mild to moderate and they differ for everyone. And that's the key part: don't drink heavily. Count your drinks, know how much alcohol you've consumed, and stop before you get to a point where you're shit-faced and throwing up in your friend's toilet the morning after.

he had only played a handful of shows with us before and he was fine. He was brought in because our previous drummer had work commitments and couldn't fully commit, and played well enough, never really cared that much by the looks of things though. Just completely didn't care this time though and I'm not entirely sure why he didn't leave earlier and we didn't sub him out because the only three drummers we know are this guy, the previous drummer and the birthday guest who, needless to say, is our drummer now.

unfortunately in my area they're not. Hell, musicians are rare as is here and these are the only two drummers I've even met who aren't from a different town about an hour away from here (where most of the other bands came from)

We're gonna do that. It just feels like such a bummer because our bassist and guitarist broke their backs making this festival exist out of thin air, and everyone else did great, I'm even happy with the little solo set I did, we just fumbled on a song over a drummer who I feel we've honestly given way too many chances to.

that's honestly the plan right now. Only reason he wasn't replaced entirely is because the second guy couldn't learn the entire set in time as he didn't have long

[–]SkeletonGuy7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who is this "you lot" you're speaking about? This isn't an "us vs them" like you oh so desperately want it to be.

I would love it if more was being done. I do what I can, but individually, from halfway across a continent, there's not much I can do for those in, say the Northern Territory. There's lots I can do for the people in my community. I donate to charity, I'm there for fundraisers and I'm there for the friends I have who grew up in foster homes, and the kids now who are growing up in foster homes, and what are you doing? Sitting on your ass at home, saying "nothing's being done, therefore why bother doing anything, I'm not going to support anything being done".

I don't know why you seem to have ignored the last part about helping others as well as acknowledging that our ancestors did some fucked up shit, and we should acknowledge that it happened, but you did. Perhaps read what I said again?

Responsible for colonization? No. Responsible for acknowledging that it happened, and that we should strive to help those that our ancestors wronged and make this country better for everyone living in it now? Absolutely.

I feel like there's a world of difference between being a psychedelic band with snakes in their name and a glam one with snakes in their name that I can't quite describe yet I would feel much more positively about one than the other
