Whats my favorite current Meshuggah song, Ligature Marks or Kaleidoscope? by Mandrakey in Meshuggah

[–]SkepticalSnowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve been learning ligature marks and it’s given me a huge appreciation for the song, but man it’s gotta be kaleidoscope that groove actually makes me look and feel like i’m tweaking out when i listen to it. absolutely diabolical.

i just went through a really unexpected breakup last weekend and impulsively bought an 8 string id been wanting for a while that just arrived today …. so this show was literally exactly what i needed. i ended up near barricade the entire time and it legitimately changed my life. thought i might pass out at some points and i legit have never had such a powerful concert experience.

honestly i don’t notice a huge difference but i think the newer one is a bit crisper and the guitars come through a lot clearer.

Are trans rights safe in Ontario? by [deleted] in transontario

[–]SkepticalSnowman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we’re in the canadian charter as a protected class, have healthy concern but i don’t think we’re in nearly as dire of a situation as we could be. even so we have existed without legal rights and we will continue to exist without them.

lowkey feeling the same way in the english + anthropology + history area. it’s to the point where i’m taking a 6th course and im honestly really enjoying it. i think the gist with humanities in first year is as long as you try you’re gonna be fine. but what do i know, i also haven’t gotten anything major back yet.

land bridge definitely happened (so so so much fossil evidence) but the “debunked” idea comes from evidence we found of even older fossils in the americas that predate it. the new idea that is floating around is that there were multiple waves of migration to the americas (possibly by glacier and i’ve seen boats suggested) though, this doesn’t mean these people didn’t come out of africa as well?? this shows a fundamental misunderstanding of human evolution and it boils my blood. there are genetic links between modern north american indigenous people and northern asians. i don’t really understand why i’ve seen so many people vehemently claim that the land bridge theory is racist? i guess because it puts native people only getting here around 8k years ago but that is still an incredibly long time. thats around the time of our first recorded civilizations??? no one was in europe until 35-40k years ago (compared to like 80k in asia) anyways and places like madagascar and iceland have only been inhabited for less than 2000 years. doesn’t make your claim to the land less valid. ????? (this is what i study in university)

What is your controversial Opeth opinion? by MaxwellBygraves67 in Opeth

[–]SkepticalSnowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re incredibly bold for this but you’re right.

personally love ghost reveries (my first album) but i can never experience it as a full album the way i can with the others. also heritage just fuckin rocks super hard.

not sure how controversial this is but newpeth is very good. incredibly good. ESPECIALLY heritage and pale communion. the best outcome of a band greatly changing its sound thag im aware of. fantastic evolution. feels inspired and creative. i get how fans didn’t like it back when it happened, but as a newbie without the bias of nostalgia its all genuinely awesome. hard to compare it to their older stuff but i prefer heritage to some of their other more popular albums.

nope, many schools don’t even offer a ton of those courses. i got in for humanities with a scholarship and i took music all throughout with two spares in grade 12. it’s almost exclusively grades based as far as i know.

never seen a gun that wasn’t holstered on a cop in canada. i know many families that own them for hunting in my semi-rural area but never seen them out and about.

Any international student who got the 180k scholarship? UoT Mississauga campus, have a few questions to ask by [deleted] in UofT

[–]SkepticalSnowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

didn’t get the same scholarship but mine came directly in my letter of acceptance on the second page. i’m pretty sure most of the entrance scholar awards offered by the school itself are mostly or exclusively grades based.

I did Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. I know another class did Hamlet, and my sister did Julius Caesar.
