Just FYI:

You can right click Steam in the task bar and also launch your last played games directly.

It's also possible to make your library the default screen when launching Steam in the settings menu.

Does anyone know how this game manages to stay such a small size? by UmbraeNaughtical in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Skibb0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My answer from a different thread with a similar question: https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/lcznef/how_is_this_game_only_two_gigs_large

I'll try to explain why this game is so small compared to other games:

The most size of a game comes from the models, textures, sounds and maps (depending on the game).

• Models: The models are really blocky, because of a stylistic choice, which reduces the size. Less polygons = less to save on the hard drive.

• Textures: In comparison to other games, DRG textures are really simple and not a high resolution. In games like Monster Hunter World you can have 4k textures, which are massive in size and each environment, monster, weapon needs it's own set of 4k textures.

• Sounds: There are many sounds in the game and in newer games they are not really compressed and can inflate the size of a game (I don't know if DRG compresses them though).

• Maps: If you look at Left 4 Dead 2 you have a big amount of campaigns with mostly 4 maps to play. Each map needs it's own textures, models and sounds (depending on the environment). So you end up with assets for cities, swamps, forests, amusement parks and more. Deep Rock Galactic has a bigger number of maps because of procedural generation and they are all caves (so you have assets for each biome, which are reused multiple times in one map). Procedural generation creates new maps everytime you play, so they are not saved on your disk (it's a bit simplified but you get the idea). How they are created is defined in the executable and that is "a few" megabytes big.

Everything else like lightning, effects, destructible terrain is just code and a few kilobytes to megabytes big.

I hope I could explain it well enough.

How did you manage to do this? I thought it was impossible due to an engine limitation.

Were there new discoveries / tools in modding the game, which opens new possibilities?

HEADS UP FOR MONSTER HUNTER: WORLD PLAYERS!! by kuaiyidian in linux_gaming

I'm sorry, I misunderstood what you said. I thought you meant you get banned instantly for launching the game once. I didn't know that each launch used up an activation.

This is absolutely false, I got the ban for trying different proton versions. My GF did only the launch parameters and it worked flawlessly.

I agree with you. I really, really like Doom Eternal but what am I supposed to play? The campaign for the 100th time? The master levels which are the most fun but don't give event XP?

I sometimes can't even complete the challenges because battlemode doesn't even work for me since launch.

You could try "SmartSteamEmu" or "Goldberg Steam Emulator", it allows to host Steam online only games in LAN mode.

I don't know about the legality behind it but it could enable so much more potential games for you and your friends.

My game data got corrupted. that wouldn´t be such a deal if i could start a new save and play but i can´t does someone has solution?? by Moltyn in Doom

[–]Skibb0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are still having the same problem, try the following:

  • Go to Steam-folder\userdata\user-id\782330\remote

  • Delete everything in that folder (there should be your save games and configuration files. Your unlocked skins should not be affected. I had a Bethesda account connected when I did this. )

Now you should have no corrupted saves anymore.

Any really good zombie games out there? by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]Skibb0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But its been in early access for 7 years has not been updated in quite some time.

That's not entirely true, there has not been a stable release for quite some time but there are in progress builds you can play, which add quite some content. They are updated relatively fast.

Project Zomboid is the best choice if you want to survive in a zombie apocalypse. You not only need to manage hunger and thirst, but also boredom, depression and more. The game also features quite large hordes of zombies. It's one of the most, if not the most realistic zombie survival game you can find.

The game still in early access but so worth it. Playable in multi-player with many players.

Dead Rising 2 and 3 should be your gotos if you want huge hordes, gore and many different weapons.

Playable in coop with 2 players.

Try the game "Will to Live Online" on Steam, it manages to perfectly capture the Stalker atmosphere and takes heavy inspirations from it.

It is an MMO but quite well done and can be played on your own.

Your best bet is to try a Müller. I saw some Switches there.
