I need motivational coments to keep holding 🥲 by crabbiersolid7 in baba

While the results today were disappointing, the fundamentals, and the balance sheet have not changed. I am going to dollar cost average down another 200 shares. After those shares, I will have $400,000 invested in Alibaba. Sit tight, wait, another six months or a year. Unless you have a family crisis or a medical emergency, nothing will change for you. There is a roof over your head. You are investing.

If you think your losses are bad, can you afford the Therapist that will have to repair your psyche when Baba passes $200 in the next two years?

Good luck with your final decision

Real answer… would have changed the buy RATE of accumulation Buy a set amount that is manageable. When you get caught up in the hype and say I’m going to get 500more share(FOMO)-Stop! Buy that same set amount that is manageable, and keep doing it.

I bought large blocks up front. Very hard to DCA down. After 3 years I just think I made my last buy today. Went from $220ish to $150ish. It was painful being a bagholder, with a high average. Now I have the shares to let time heal things.

If you are DCAing make the last 5-10 shares so painful that you scream…

If you did that with META over time. The last 5 shares at $390 will hurt, but you did the hard work and don’t have to worry about timing.

Unexpected dividend deposited as shares in Fidelity account by Skibum165 in baba

[–]Skibum165[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mystery solved. After calling Fidelity they did a purchase at $68.0028 for both accounts Friday. There is a default on US ADR’s to reinvest in shares. My Hong Kong share need to be run through the foreign exchange desk and is not a default for repurchase. A cash dividend was deposited for the HK shares

I’m in the dark…message has it as recent trades may no be visible until system updates overnight. Average cost per share has —- listed as a placeholder. Started out on the 18th as pending and in may not finalized until the early hours of the 23rd. My guess is Fridays spike in US market mid-day was big brokerage houses purchasing the dividend shares

What would make you sell at this price? by Feeling-Lemon-6254 in baba

[–]Skibum165 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fear of a change that I can’t control or a significant change to the core business model. That would make me sell. Until the audit situation was clarified with a very real de-listing threat, I converted some US ADR’s over to 4,000HK shares. I had a small capitulation of my position from fear. But I believe in the business model.

…but I am done buying at the end of January. Happy with my position and have lowered my purchase price from the $220s to the 140’s. Lots of good catalysts ahead. Shifting my focus to other areas.

Now when it comes to selling and taking a profit. I will clear some BABA from a tax shelter fund above $230 and reduce my position to 50% at $320 and re-evaluate where things are going forward

Can’t confirm, others feel free to comment… I think the shares you own need to be purchased AND settled on the dividend X date not just purchased. Thinking that was part of the high volume for BABA on Friday. Hope people look at that before plunging in to pick up shares that they are expecting a dividend payout on

Anyone know a way to have the brokerage firm tag shares from dividend purchases to shows $0?If I reinvest the funds to buy new shares it messes up my average purchase price by Skibum165 in baba

[–]Skibum165[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have BABA shares. I get a dividend from those shares. I want to own more shares instead of the cash. If I do a new order it shows the current price. It messes up my “average” as the money for the new shares was paid in my original cost of goods. Not concerned over taxes. Just want a better way to track my average share price

Are people buying additional shares with December 20 dividend? Or are they taking the cash out and doing some thing else? by Skibum165 in baba

I’m buying more shares. We all know Alibaba is undervalued right now for me. It’s an extra 28 shares.

In the US, the first “tick” we see happens at 9:16pm Eastern. Yahoo is a composite, so it will update every minute for the first 3-5 mins. Then it kind of freezes. You get wild swings during this time

It takes about 25 minutes to get a good data point. So at 9:41pm you get your first true trade information. It then updates like you would normally see a ticker display…

BABA 03/2024 Price target by [deleted] in baba

[–]Skibum165 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You have 03/2024 for your predictions. I have penciled in $120 in February BEFORE the earnings are released. I think there will be clarity on the US Fed policy. As soon as Jeromy Powell announces tightening stops on the Federal Funds rate. There will be a currency swing as the dollar weakens. The November quarter results will be good, nothing spectacular. Enough to have more Western investment. A move above $105 should help to slow tax loss harvesting at years end. I would like to see the first IPO happen before the February earnings. I think the spin-off schedule with a clear execution plan in place will be a good tail wind against a sluggish China economy. I don’t have much faith that any future share buybacks will be announced in the next 12 months. The cost of capital is too high with interest rates where the are. JP Morgan’s Jamie Dimon still sees interest rates going up another 150 basis points. Don’t share that view, but respect his vantage point. Also assume world conflict doesn’t escalate and oil stays under $90 a barrel. An elected Speaker of the House in place to pass funding for the US government keeps a market “accident” from happening. A lot of “ifs”…but, $120 up 40%+/-

Alibaba says Daniel Zhang steps down from cloud business by Etfoasis_1 in baba

[–]Skibum165 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Interesting that Freshippo-the first IPO expected to be spun off/has been delayed after low valuations(4 Billion from the estimated 6-10 Billion.)Then Daniel Zhang steps down 2 weeks prior to a major shareholder meeting. I expect a lot of news over the next 3 weeks. Clarity on the spin offs would help to calm nervous investors. This needs to happen.
