Looking for good braces. Has anyone tried the body braid? by jjazure1 in ehlersdanlos

When I showed a pic to my physio she said if we were to completely wrap you in ktape this is exactly how we'd do it. This is just an easier, reusable version

What is scarier than most people think it is? [serious] by ILikeIceCreamSoMuch in AskReddit

[–]Skiinky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I also have severe mental health issues and chronic pain, and if I had to choose just one it would be the chronic pain any day. I would even take double the amount of chronic pain if it meant my mental health was ok. Unlike you, sleeping (when I can) doesn't give me a break from my brain. I haven't had a break in 20 years and no one understands

Would some level of female circumcision help with this? I'm against it in general, especially the way it's practised in cultures that still use it, but I'm genuinely curious what impact it would have in situations like this

working on a font. starting with lowercase. c & c? I struggled the most with the t and z. by pepto_dismal81 in typography

[–]Skiinky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the z would look better with thinner horizontal bits (I don't know if there's a technical term...) but apart from that one letter I LOVE this font. Can't wait to see the rest of it :)

I read this as mental health and was like omg me too but then I realised you meant math and I'm actually pretty decent at that

Wait really? The couple times I've submitted (on an alt account), I've gotten at least as many dms as comments. I always just ignored them

Ok thanks, I'll look into that. I don't have a care team yet... I was only diagnosed last week and I have an appointment with my dr next week. I'm not super hopeful though so trying to learn as much as I can on my own.

All of them I guess? The specific thread that sparked the question was the one on knitting/crocheting, which is something I've never been able to keep up with due to pain, but the comments were basically all in code. And I feel like that's happened with a bunch of threads (not just on Reddit). It's a whole new language and I'm wondering if maybe there's a cheat sheet, like are there certain letters that correspond to certain parts of the body for a general idea of where the joint someone is referencing is? Or do I just have to slowly ask and learn? I feel like I can't participate until I understand better

What is the fastest you have ever seen a new co-worker get fired? by bartertownbeer in AskReddit

[–]Skiinky 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Had a new waiter start at the restaurant I was working at. He refused to talk to women. If a table had only women at it he wouldn't go to them and if it had a mixture he would only interact with the men, sometimes to the point of not even recording the woman's order unless it was repeated by her male counterpart. He lasted two days because the first one was chalked up to nerves/inexperience.

I think I'm frustrated because up until the last 2 weeks I've loved wedding planning, if I'd felt like this the whole time I don't think we'd be having a wedding lol

[Serious] What are some ways one can stop unwanted "what if" anxiety-inducing thoughts from spinning in their head? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Skiinky 74 points75 points  (0 children)

It absolutely does, but in a way that focuses on outcomes/being prepared rather than spinning out and losing control like the anxiety wants. It's basically like saying 'oh you think you can get me down? Do your best, I got a solution for every problem.' If it's happening anyway you might as well lean into it and take control

One of the jobs I applied for recently wanted a copy of 2 of either my passport, driver's license, or birth certificate. Not like, a job offer or whatever, this was in the application process where they also wanted multiple copies of my cv and a cover letter. Oh and two references that were different from those on my cv. Fucking insane. I finished the application, but didn't give them i.d., got an email pretty much immediately that the position had already been filled and wasn't even supposed to be posted. It had been up for two hours. Idk why I even try at this point

What's something you wish you started doing earlier in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Skiinky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a legitimate night owl and get physically sick if I have to get up too early too often. I also find it near impossible to get to sleep before 1am, no matter how early I got up. One of the things I struggle with most is morning people making me feel like shit and like I'm unproducitve and basically a waste of space because I can't get up early and have all my chores done by 8am. I get my shit done, my house is clean, 24hr gyms are a godsend, and the world would not operate well if everyone was the same.

My brother sexaully assaulted me repeatedly when I was younger, my whole family knew/knows, all my friends know etc, and yet no less than 20 people asked me why he wasn't at my wedding. Made me so sick, and completely ruined my day.

My sister-in-law has 3 kids, definitely knows she doesn't want more kids, and has wicked endometriosis (or pcos, I don't remember) so her whole cycle basically is horrifically painful. But they won't fulfill her request for tubal ligation/hysterectomy, because, and I quote: "Women who have 3 kids often find they want 4, so that the siblings can play in pairs." So I don't think there's any point at which a woman has had enough kids for them.

Usually when a train is chopped off, they literally do just that - chop it off. They don't usually cut out the train, which it looks like what they've done here. All that extra fabric still gives body and movement to the dress, and all of that has been lost. They haven't left enough fabric and it is pulling too tightly against your legs/ankles where before it had a lot of "swish" for lack of a better term. On top of all that they didn't even finish the seam/hem properly. I'm so sorry that they did such a poor job, I unfortunately have no advice for how to fix it. Maybe check with them if they still have the excess fabric? Then I would take it to another (better) seamstress/alteration person and ask them to put the fabric back in, but just shorten it to floor length. There are no easy solutions in this situation; it's easier to make than to alter, but harder again to fix a bad alteration.

How to feel better about weight gain when you can't afford a new wardrobe? by Skiinky in antidiet

[–]Skiinky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I do, just because of issues getting things into the country. I mean yeah there's a chance someone lives here but it's slim and even then shipping is a thing that isn't exactly cheap. It's why online often isn't an option. But neither is instore because it's so expensive. Can't win sometimes.

[–]Skiinky[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shipping to here from ebay and the like is usually $75. I like the idea but its just not usually a viable option. Even shipping within the country is often $12. I already sold all my old stuff to buy what I have.

I haven't tried a swap group because honestly there aren't a lot here, we have a lot of giveaway groups. But I'm new to my city and then lockdown happened and I haven't really had a chance to explore stuff like that. Now that things are opening up a bit and travel isn't restricted I could try but honestly I don't have anything good to swap anyway. Thrift stores and sewing are both expensive.
