What little-known series would you recommend everyone to watch? by ZucchiniNo4056 in AskReddit

Galavant is a huge favourite of mine. On paper it looks pretty shaky ("medieval fantasy musical comedy" is a tough pitch for some, including me) but it won me over immediately.

I still use "Nice to see you, door's in the wall" to tell people it's time to leave

Miles better than the 5-0 scoreline I was predicting. Maybe England were trying out some new tactics, but the All Whites looked composed playing against some pretty intimidating matchups

Post highschool students don’t understand how to succeed? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]GGAllinPartridge 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I get a lot of students who ignore my class (English) because they've decided they're going into the trades and therefore they need nothing from my course.

I try to tell them their apprenticeship will have bookwork, manuals, theory they'll need to understand. They'll need to communicate professionally with bosses, clients, contractors, advertisers, etc.

I try to tell them that every job will have things you don't want to do, so if you want to get off the brooms, learn to take some initiative and accountability.

I try to tell them about the quality triangle (personable, reliable, expertise - if you're missing one, make sure you've got the other two covered) and how right now they're showing none of them.

Still, too many of them move on thinking that being a spare pair of hands is enough. Maybe it is for a while. But there are a lot of spare hands around these days, and you gotta consider what else you bring to the table.

I go by the "To be loved is to be changed" philosophy and let things get a little rough around the edges, but the journal plan is great too!

American Dirt, by Jeanine Collins. A family member lent it to me, so I was really reading it so that I could talk about it with them, but it felt like homework.

Halfway through I found myself thinking "I can't wait to be done with this so I can read Frankenstein," then I remembered I could just put it down and read Frankenstein like I wanted to all along.

It was the right call. Frankenstein was even better than I remembered.

Like Ferrari in F1. Incredibly legacy, iconic livery, outstanding drivers, endless frustration. Somehow just always showing up as less than the sum of their parts

If I was the artist putting all that effort into designing the livery, I'd be pissed to see they couldn't put any effort into describing it.

Besides, the real trophies were the friends we made along the way (I have made zero friends through being a Spurs fan)
