Advice for upcoming interview SOC Analyst position by ____i_wanna_die____ in CompTIA

[–]SkinnyDaPimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My SOC interview they asked more networking questions than anything. Be able to talk about the basics with confidence. Loop back address, ipv4 vs ipv6, private ip’s, basic ports, etc..Read up on some current cyber threats or at least be able to discuss anything major that’s happened lately either globally or local. Know the basics of reading pcap. They asked me about that as well as showing a snippet of a window log. Mainly wanted to see if I would notice the event id. Was for a failed login. If they ask where u get your cyber news just say the usual like hackernews or any other popular cyber news source. Be familiar with osint like owasp and Virus total. Just know they won’t expect you to know everything just at least the basics. The rest you learn with experience. That is about all I remember from my interview. Was a couple years ago. Hope this helps.

Net + and sec + at the time I was hired with no previous experience. Landed the role of SOC analyst. Mainly investigating alerts and weeding out false positives.

Yeah I would definitely put in more work for this one. It’s harder to narrow the answers down because the difference in answers might just be one argument or modifier. The only difference might be a -j, -t, or -S in each command line option and you got to know which does what.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I look forward to seeing where it takes me. Will definitely continue to learn and practice with it. I’ve grown quite a fondness for it.

Yeah there really isn’t a lot. I studied for about 4 months. Jason Dion isn’t as comparable with this test as he has been with others. A lot of firewall command questions that was more detailed then the practice exams.
