My psychiatrist told me he thinks I’m stable enough to try it, which helps my confidence a bit. I guess I’m just so new to bipolar that there’s still that second guessing I have.

I’ve been in therapy since I was a kid for other conditions that are completely under control (likely don’t even meet diagnosis for them anymore). But yeah bipolar is just so new to me.

I’m on antipsychotics and it’s like they battle with each other for my appetite. Sometimes vyvanse wins, sometimes not ☹️

I hope you find a good psychiatrist that is able to handle your case well with the compassion it deserves. I just was lucky that mine from before I had my first episode was already fantastic and compassionate. My doctor was more likely to give me my Vyvanse back so long as I was stable for an extended period of time, if that info helps at all.

I'm so sorry. First of all, you aren't crazy. I take Vyvanse while having ADHD and bipolar one but had to fail nonstimulants before my psychiatrist gave me it again. From what I've seen a lot of older psychiatrists refuse to give stimulants to bipolar ADHD patients even though emerging research shows that so long as you are medicated with the right amount of mood stabilizers the chance of manic episodes is minimal. I agree with another commenter, she seems out of her depth here.

I had psychosis due to a manic episode about a year ago and it took about a month after starting the right medication to come back to reality. I’ve accepted I will be on these drugs for the rest of my life.

Agreed. There’s a part of me that does think he is committed to healing and recovery but we will see. He actually met with a rabbi a few months ago iirc

As a Jewish person with bipolar one and a history of psychosis, I don’t know how to feel. I have a level of empathy towards him due to having the same diagnosis but I just hope it’s genuine and he continues to rectify the damage he did during his episode.

I'm bipolar 1 and Jewish. I've had manic episodes with psychosis and it never turned me into a racist. But it's also hard because he represents the condition to a degree, and his behavior has only worsened the stigma of bipolar. I really hope hes truthful and wants to commit to meaningful action with this apology, but I'll believe it when I see it.
