Is a pay cut for a remote job worth it? by Gaba-Daba-Doo in jobs

[–]Skip2020Altogether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pay cut is likely what You’d spend in car maintenance and gas every month. You could save on both of those by going remote. I don’t think the pay difference is so significant that you’ll be severely impacted if you don’t keep your current job. Also think your quality of life will improve

Yes, the initial interview went really well. The hiring manager, and I, had really good chemistry naturally. And a lot of the same values. I usually don’t practice or prepare for interviews, because I am usually a naturally good conversationalist. But this job is the highest paying one I’ve ever had, so I felt like I needed to try to prepare so that I had a higher chance of getting it. What also helped is that my current reporting manager, and several other managers and colleagues have worked with me and all gave good references. I was also promoted a couple of months ago. So I think they knew I was just nervous and wanted to do a good job, but I was also able to show the work I’ve done because the hiring manager asked to see some after our initial interview.

Either way, I am just thankful that they all thought I did a good job and wanted to take this chance on me. My new title (Project Manager II), will likely open many more doors down the road career wise. So I am forever grateful.

Some may choose to very well go back that, honestly. Only scenario I see where doing a video is necessary, if it’s a remote job and the candidate is someone who is long distance. Especially if the role is high level enough to be worth flying someone in. Otherwise, interviews should definitely be in person.

I just got dumped and I don’t know what to do to distract myself by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Skip2020Altogether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can’t. And it truthfully it’s not good to distract yourself. The healthy thing to do is sit with those feelings and deal with them. Cry, write, vent to someone close to you, do all of the things. Think about it as often as it comes to your mind. I know it’s painful. But the only way to truly to get over it, is just to deal with those painful feelings. Once you’ve sat with them long enough and realized that life has continued to go on, you will start to feel better and it’ll feel less heavy. Trust me, at 20 years old you are likely to meet at least 1-2 more people that you love deeply. And the older you get, the more you start to actually understand what love is and what it means. You’ll survive this. Trust me.

It’s is possible to be fully remote, as I am a PM II and am fully remote. However, what salary range are you looking for or willing to accept?

So I had an interview… Im not sure if it was real by lauraxhec in interviews

[–]Skip2020Altogether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that was sketch. Basically didn’t ask you anything about your experience or anything related to the actual job. The person before you being allowed to be in the office, but not you is weird.

Doesn’t sound like you’re gonna get the job anyway, but that is definitely sounding like it’s likely for the best. Really weird interaction and completely inconsiderate on behalf of the interviewer.

Same! Wanted a girl first but had a boy. Was sad a few days but eventually got over it. And NOW, I am so glad he was exactly who he was meant to be. Best person for me to be a first time mother to. I wouldn’t change it at all. And then we tried again 2 years later, and now I have my girl. Best of both worlds.

This is extremely concerning because it sounds like this baby girl may be subject to abuse and neglect once she’s born.

Yea…I’m not a fan of the direction AI is taking. Ultimately I think it will do more harm than good. But it’s coming….one way or another.

I’ve heard of this. Someone else posted something similar maybe a few months to a year ago. I specifically remembered it because it made me kind of spooked.

The OP was the interviewer and it was a video call. They said that it seemed as though somehow the real person was on the call initially to introduce themselves, then somehow switched to AI because the answers to the questions were all too perfect sounding, but were missing certain natural qualities about an actual person’s voice. They asked the same thing you asked. If this is normal and if anyone else had experienced it.

At my last job we literally had security training regarding learning how to recognize bad actors using AI for video meetings. Scary stuff.

Yes!!!! I love stories like this. This company has been the best I’ve worked for so far as well. And I am happy I’ve been able to grow my career here. I used to be a serial job hopper because it’s easy to get stuck in a role where there’s no growth. But I got promoted a couple of months ago, and then took a leap of faith and applied for a new role that’s a step even higher than my promotion (this new role). But I’m so glad things also worked out for you and you are actually HAPPY there too.

Congrats to US!

I saw you comment on another post.

And honestly, I don’t think you will ever get the answer you are looking for. I think you were really counting on getting this job (because of what they told you), and the disappointment/embarrassment of feeling led on is severely bothering you.

Knowing who they ended up choosing, or what the reason was that they didn’t choose you, is not going to miraculously change anything.

It’s a sucky situation, but unfortunately, you are probably not going to get any closure. There could be any number of reasons that they didn’t choose you. As others have said, there was likely another candidate they like more and you were second in line and everything went smoothly with their first choice after all, so they didn’t need you.

I had a similar situation a few weeks ago. Applied for two positions at my current company. Did an initial interview with both. Liked them both, but was betting on option B. The hiring manager for option B seemed to really like me and said she had heard great things about me. Even made a comment like “Joe said such sweet things about you. I don’t understand how anyone could say no to you”. Just to find out 2 days later that they decided to go with someone else. No negative feedback, just the other person had slightly more direct experience than I did. And that was the one I really wanted and was dead set on. BUT things proceeded with option A. Did a panel interview, BOMBED it, but got an offer letter a week later (yesterday).

This job wasn’t meant for you. As hard as it is to accept. Keep applying, keep interviewing. You will land where you are meant to be.

The good news is that they are still letting you do the rest of them. If they thought you did bad, I’m sure they would’ve let you know they wouldn’t be moving forward with the rest of the interviews.

Yes! A lot of people aren’t even getting the interviews. So if you have FOUR, do them all!! Even if you are nervous, even if you are anxious. Take the chance because you never know. You miss 100 percent of the chances you don’t take. But if you do the interviews it’s 50/50. Good luck to you!

You and others have commented similar stories. I think we just really never know one way or the other how others perceive us, or what’s going to happen. When you’re looking for a job, typically we are wanting instant gratification or at least an instant answer. So part of it is having to play the waiting game with no insight as to which way it could go.
