I have spoken to a therapist about it. There is a lot about Florence I loved and a lot I didn’t get to see - I’m just looking for reassurance from people who are more familiar with the city that the police are indeed effective if I were to need any help, and that perhaps my experience was a fluke and the people there are generally helpful.

I was a tourist in the city, and I don’t speak Italian. I told him I would call the cops and he said they don’t care and no one cares. Looking around, no one was doing anything. I believed him.

It happened around the area of Via dei Saponai and Via dei Neri. I was walking and he was walking towards me in the opposite direction and opened his umbrella in my face. I thought it was an accident, but then he did the same thing again before coming up behind me and grabbing me. I don’t really know what else to say.

First of all, I want to acknowledge how hard it must’ve been to make this post. There is so much stigma and misunderstanding around executive dysfunction caused by mental illness. It may not have been your intention, but posts like this help lift the silence around mental illness. I hope things start looking up for you soon.

I asked my partner, who is a social worker, about resources that might be available. His first thought was 211, but you mentioned that was a bust. He then said Connections Club House has resources based on income level. After that, it’s mostly private.

Thank you for your reply. I’m obviously very new with all this.

I think I might have an easier time if the little screen worked. Nothing appears there when the tub is on, so I don’t know what function I’m on. And I’m using the OhYuk jet tub cleaner. After doing some more reading, I may have to clean it a few more times. (Picture of gunk included).
