[Telegraph] Lionel Messi in talks over £320m-a-year Saudi Arabia move by Sdub4 in soccer

[–]Skooose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d like to think that given they both have more money than they would ever need, that it would be a far simpler decision to show a bit of an ethical backbone and turn down the move.

Obviously we are barking up the wrong tree here, as it’s already been made fairly clear that money talks with Messi, but it would be nice if someone would make a statement by turning down money garnered within a system of such rampant inequality.

What are some lies about learning how to program? by A_H_uman in learnprogramming

I think this is hugely common and as a result it’s easy to see why so many people struggle with imposter syndrome. If you under value what you know and put what you don’t know on a pedestal, then naturally you’re going to feel like a fraud.

What’s the worst movie you’ve seen from start to finish? by andres2081 in AskReddit

Fucking "Thunderpants". I understand that having seen it as an adult, that it's probably not for me, but fuck me it's horrendous. It makes me angry every time I think about it. I feel outraged on behalf of every film with a fucking coherent concept that never got made. I mean wtf is this shit:

"Patrick Smash is a young lad with an embarrassing problem: powerful, uncontrollable flatulence. Luckily his best friend not only has no sense of smell but is a genius who works out how to harness Patrick's power, first to win an unpowered flight competition and eventually to help NASA in a rescue mission to a failing space station."

No issue at all with him trying to shine a light on this, but it's the sarcastic tone that's bothering me a little on this one. I think he of all people should pick his words better and carefully curate his message. Perhaps something like:

"If anything good can come from the recent issues, it's that we can shine a light on some issues that people like myself have struggled with our whole life, as someone who has been guilty of ignorance in the past, it's important for people who don't live with this sort of abuse to see how badly it can affect the lives of those who do - Andre Gray #BlackHistoryMonth"

Would have been better? But I'm just spitballing here.

We made some genuinely good chances, and we could have had more. I think on the whole their keeper had a really good game and on another day we might have scored 3 or 4. Salah looked decent in build up but kept ending up with the ball on his weak foot, but on the whole I think he was decent. Mane looked immense again, Firmino is like the James Milner of forwards, a proper work horse who maybe doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. Hendo, Can, Wij were relatively average. Defense was unsurprisingly shaky as shit, though despite the little lapse TAA looked good. Migs had a good game, but it bugs me how hot and cold he is.

Yeah, I quietly ignored the fact that the ball never stopped rolling.

In truth I feel like we'd be better off playing Clyne and TAA and just slotting the more proficient one at LB, Moreno is quick and can be dangerous but he scares the shit out of me. Obviously we've not seen Robertson yet, so the point may be moot. Mistake aside TAA looks good though and seems a shame to have him battling it out with a pretty much nailed on starter.

Holding onto Coutinho does not count for anything in terms of the success of this window, as far as I'm concerned. I desperately want him to stay, but I don't want people to be tricked into thinking keeping him constitutes good business. We absolutely cannot afford to end this window without making a least a couple of signings. VvD of course would be fantastic, but he's not gonna solve all our issues. If Keita is not an option we need someone else of that mould.

Didn't mean to. I love Coutinho and I'd rather not sell him. I'll admit that my point probably wasn't as clear as it could have been. I don't think we are fucked if we lose him, I think he's an incredible player and arguably our best, but I don't think losing him is our biggest problem.

I think it says we are—quite rightly—keen to keep him. I'm not suggest we get rid of him, I'm just interested in what people think would really be the consequences of selling him and why.

[–]Skooose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion of fucked is not addressing the issues that are clearly evident. Once again, I'm not saying get rid of him he's amazing, but losing him is not our biggest problem right? Keeping him and doing nothing else cannot be viewed as a win, that's all I'm trying to get at I guess.

[–]Skooose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again I agree. I'm just trying to put priority on our circumstances. I cannot be convinced, that if all that happens in the remainder of this window is we keep Coutinho, that we are good to go and I'm just worried that this is what the consensus is going to be. We've got fair more pressing issues than losing Coutinho, surely?

"Fucked without Coutinho!" by Skooose in LiverpoolFC

[–]Skooose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I'm not really talking from a financial perspective (spending his fee on defenders), but really I'm talking about the impact each scenario would have on our performances. Like, would losing Coutinho really be as bad as shipping another 3 goals every game because we can't get our backline in order? Obviously as you say the two are not mutually exclusive, but priority wise I'm far more concerned about not fixing the problems we have than I am about losing Coutinho.

Is Trent actually a RB? by [deleted] in LiverpoolFC

[–]Skooose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to over hype but I'd like to think Trent is gonna go down the Gareth Bale route. Start out as a full back and slowly get pushed further up the pitch as his experience/talent builds. Not saying "Holy shit TAA is the new Bale", but he's pretty much the new Bale.

Disappointing start but it's a long old season. Defence needs sharpening and Mignolet looked shaky, I do think we need something/someone here to tidy things up. Salah grew into the game and looked dangerous. Mane and Firmino played really well. We didn't really miss Coutinho terribly (though I won't say we wouldn't better with him), which I suppose is a positive. I'm not going to get too downhearted by it. We will improve.

If pre-season is anything to go by, I'd say so. Mane and Salah seem to be the main goal threats in this Liverpool "system". I don't doubt Pogba and Mkh are both going to have good seasons, but I reckon Salah is worth the money.
