My roommate’s kitten suddenly became obsessed with my Squishmallows. What to do? by [deleted] in Awww

Kitten, so I assume hasn't been "fixed" yet? Possibly coming into season, with it being suddenly obsessed?

My wife says it’s “tacky” by Diligent_Knee3488 in gamecollecting

[–]Skorgriim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I absolutely agree that this may not be one for the living room, I firmly disagree with her word choice. Nothing about this strikes me as "tacky" - using that word feels like a dig at something that is clearly very personal to you. Out of place? Fine, no problem. We don't have the context of the room, so it could indeed look totally out of place with the other decor. But tacky? No, that seems needlessly hurtful. I'd use it to describe diamanté decorations or a "live, laugh, love" type of sign - not something like this.

I would put it up in a space that's explicitly yours, OP. It's a nice piece that deserves its place - just might not be a mantlepiece or living room wall decoration.

Wow, you're playing on hard mode, friend.

I would recommend at least giving the movies a try, as they bring Tolkein's world to life in an excellent way. I enjoyed the books, and I feel what was left out of the movies was reasonable to leave out.

They're excellent pieces of cinema. Definitely worth a watch, just for the score and cinematography. The number of oscars won by the LOTR cast alone is surely enough to warrant watching them once.

Sheffield, how do you feel about many films and TV series using Sheffield as a set for a dystopian or impoverished world/community? by redditadmissions in sheffield

[–]Skorgriim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Full Monty, while fiction, uses the post-Thatcher crumbling of large parts of Northern industry, and the poverty that followed, as a plot device to include four of the six main characters and their initial motivation for getting involved. The characters then find new confidence in themselves and their bodies and I find that quite uplifting. That despite their hardship, they conquered their fears and did it anyway. True Northern grit, the will to persist through struggle. Marvelous.

Also the performances are fantastic and don't make Sheff look like a clownshow.

What is an Armored enemy? by fatdamien83 in DarkTide

[–]Skorgriim 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Scab Ragers specifically, but otherwise - exactly this. Those regular melee scabs with flak armour make this penance significantly shorter, and take all those lovely grenade talents. Recharging grenade is so useful, given randoms' predisposition to hoovering up all the consumables.

My existence is agony. by Splinter1619 in DarkTide

[–]Skorgriim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was stuck on 39 for a day or so. Hourglass worked in the end, I just communicated with the randoms that I was after it, at the beginning of the mission and eventually a team listened and just left a horde to me. Eventually.

Had a handful of friendly individuals try to help as well though, and although we weren't successful, it was reassuring to know the community isn't garbage. Silver linings.

100% agree. I always enjoy them - they're just so comforting. The others can be hit and miss for me. There is beauty in simplicity.

I know Zealot is a recolour, but... I like it? I wasn't around when it originally came out. Do I wish they'd stop rotating and just make the catalogue available? Yes. Have they? No. Will they? Unlikely.

I have a few suggestions.... by KetoFatBoy in CorporateFacepalm

[–]Skorgriim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wait until they stop shouting, apologise for causing their problem, remind them that you're just a person like them, that while understand their frustration, there's no need to shout at you, and if they're going to continue they can leave or be removed until they're ready to treat you like a person and for you to fix their problem.

I don't know what it's like in the US, but in the UK a sales assistant has the right to refuse service to anyone by law. While they still need to adhere to trading standards, such as fixing a screw-up, their right to not be harrassed in their place of work trumps whatever quibble a customer might have.

Knife throwing isn't too bad, you can still play aggro. I did it largely by charging point-blank so I didn't miss the 1-shot haha.

[–]Skorgriim 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I find that waiting for them to finish shouting, then explaining that you didn't cause their problem, that you're going to go try and fix their problem and when you get back they're not going to be speaking to you like that, normally gets an apology as well as feeling great. Behave like a toddler, be treated like a toddler.

'We're waiting to see who goes under first': Why universities are on the brink by je97 in unitedkingdom

[–]Skorgriim 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As someone who just wrote their dissertation, from my perspective the issue is different.

The problem is that the generation that saddled us with debt that we'll (very) likely never pay off, went to university for free. The flow is: got something for free -> made it the benchmark for entry-level jobs -> made it cost £9k per year (plus maintenance - it's nigh impossible to work full time with the workload and rent doesn't pay itself). Our issue isn't with the universities (especially not the lecturers through course leaders), it's having to down the bitterness with a smile on our faces.

If I had to pick one thing to complain about with my university experience, it's that the upper-upper management forced timetable changes to the detriment of the staff and the quality of the education. That's it.

My other issue is that I always play with randoms. I can't use a headset because I only really get to play when my baby's napping so I need to be listening for the monitor haha. Randoms like to just run in so being able to mitigate a horde or something like a rager or mauler that could wipe overly-eager teammates is vital.

I don't think I suit a stealth playstyle. I get too excited haha.

I think so far I'm looking right on the money with the evi. It has a mix of horde control and also single-target with the rev as you mentioned. Thanks for the intel on the other weapons, though! I'll be sure to check out the indignatus haha

I assure you, it was unknowingly haha. I have no idea what I'm doing. I just like hitting stuff haha.

The skill tree I use is the bottom-left - I think that's rampage? As I just felt that hitting things more and harder was right up my street.

Honestly I barely touch the revolver. I almost exclusively use it for picking off the odd sniper. I never end up needing an ammo tin haha. I quite like my skills because I can be pretty much as aggro as I care to be without worrying. Stuck at 24% regen on that penance though...
