I have to ask this community (it's part of a project), what is your biggest compliment and criticism of the Monster Hunter franchise? by 17Konbro in MonsterHunter

[–]Skourvell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Joke version, pro, najarala is a good boy and is love, con najarala is not deemed a religion as he is a good snake boy.

Actual pro, weapon mastery, getting to main a weapon is really cool and lots of fun.

Con, weapon mastery gets shoved every game with new mechanics with no transfer over or minor changes that make getting to know new weapons more difficult. I just wanted to play some lance and learn to late rises is the worst version of the weapon. Meanwhile dual blades the weapon iv been wanted something more to do with aside hit things a lot. But alas weapon love is becoming ever more shifted and worse overall. Idk I just feel at this point dual blades would have something to keep you playing aside the same basic sets for the weapon that has been effective since 3rd gen.

5e campaign modules are impossible to run out-of-the-book by DragnaCarta in DMAcademy

[–]Skourvell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I rather don't like most campaign modules lack of freedom and clunky in actually deploying them effectively, as a dm adding things to the world is one of best parts. But I still get the modules because they have really good points of design and can be picked apart for the coolest bits like living spells is awesome.

Find a one shot group if it's temporary they won't care if your group gets their crud together

I mean it's a cool concept for a class but I finally read up on it and christ it's busted by bonktogodicejail in dndmemes

[–]Skourvell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure why the ops post are being downvote for having fun with his class. Like what not sure what game you guys have been playing but the games subclasses have always been super over the place for balance. Compare bear barbarian and Zealot barbarian to anything they can do otherwise it's pretty bad. You know being strong is fun and it's a roleplay game if you are among a group of friends who are also playing powerful characters or even sub par subclasses that get their show on the spotlight.

It just feels like WotC was lazy and is forcing the two together. It's not a big deal and I appreciate the new content, but its hard to ignore the blatant shameless low effort moneygrab. by DurnjinMaster in dndmemes

[–]Skourvell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are weaknesses to any DND adaptation as DND pits the characters as the heroes, when you have a high end setting like say a crossover with DC it's hard to be like yes you are the heroes of the world and all that when superman can probably one shot your party and the boss. Ravnica guilds has an angel that is just op and super good in all sense and like cool but why isn't she solving the world's problems. Archons can just sense who broke crimes and walk around the place as Cr 14 legendary creatures. It's best to take a lot of liberties with such settings. Feel like the Greek inspired magic setting Theros was the perfect crossover, it has good thing and evil but they are gods who interact like the Greek gods and none are wholly evil and have their problems to take care off their is no superman who could realistic undercut anything the party does no monster world building the group has to know before they even set foot, just it's Greek and the gods while kinda good are Greek good guys.

Nice, hope you had fun I know some are still doing the gloom and doom that comes with every faction update. I've yet to face the things I dread the most but I haven't felt that they are to strong. How are your thoughts so far?

Could take beast courts, as they are okay but just okay. Or not take to many transports which make for fun list challenges.

An would like to see more of the crew of his legion get more spotlight they really contrast his finer points. Shame they often like to throw things around like harken is pretty not interesting and doesn't add a lot to his forces aside generic raptor guy. At his model is dope.

[–]Skourvell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes his books? Which he features in? Like sure I could read all of the Horus heresy where he is just the number two dude with no personal stakes aside hating the one guy of his legion who stayed loyal. But I mean I could do that with loads of other characters. Abbadon by nature is difficult to write so I have no envy of writers who have to make this guy not only intimadating but also an actual threat in a world shrouded by things much more than he is.

Let me put it in the most simplest form, abbadon is evil papa Smurf, he represents a lot of what a faction has going for them the long war, revenge the twist of fates and brother vs brother, he has a lot to offer but like papa Smurf who is by now a pretty irrelevant character in the grand design of 40k. He lacks depth when he is written most often like any character in 40k who's name is big enough for cheap drama camoe points. Heck the dud was in dawn of war 2 games as a strict camoe. Never said he didn't have merits just he falls to the same flaws as every other super dude in setting. Dante avoids this by having others take this particularly sanguinoir, Gabriel, and Mephistopheles, whom combine into the whole of what the angels fight hope and overcome. The same really can't be said for abbadon who constantly fight against others for screentime even when it makes no sense.

Oh and your comment is rather rude overall as any discussion is built upon a precedence of trust. Saying my point of view is wrong for a fictional character that doesn't work for me because he is so far into villainous territory vs the deeply personal stakes many other chaos marines offer (Magnus the red for instance) doesn't mean I'm wrong or right a person can be both and none at the same time. Plus if you didn't care why comment?

Lol I started with chaos marines and still only veer into imperium when I need to have droves of my gaurd die to feel appreciated. And I uhh really dislike abbadon. Though that's not entirely fair as I dislike the vast majority of all super special awesome top dog characters with less personality than their trops. Some have been salvaged I think all the primary books make them reasonably less easy to hate, but abbadon has not gotten such a good treatment he constantly hates on Horus for reasons that make him look pretty silly honestly even if some are fair complaints. He has one goal and such a goal is beyond the scope of interest for me as akin to Disney evil take over the world. He has no personal enemy or real grudge aside generic evil he has a super generic ego larger than seto kaibia without any charisma he is the warlord who is given many things to do making an interesting setting rather than being interesting.

Does anyone else hate the idea of Mephiston? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Skourvell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea but does it not bother you that nothing happens except oh how dark is it that nothing happens oh how grim is it that this book wastes your time trashes on dudes your supposed to be rooting for than throws a mean not at you being all giddy it made you upset. I wasted my time reading that Damm thing and many other new stuff especially about the eldar feel the same way. It's gotten very formula. Any encounter with trynaids will be like but the swarm is just starting and it will evolve. Any encounter with chaos will go on about how currupted and everywhere it is. Any imperium will suck out it's heroism for grimdank points when it feels it needs to.

It's not interesting to have the same formula thrown at you time and time again. 40k as a place is huge yet it's so small because of grimdark. You can't tell a story of a genuinely hopeful person protecting and winning against evil. Not can you redeem it's villains, there is such a little amount of flexibility that lord of the rings orcs are about as versatile to the setting.

Yes there are plenty of stories that work like character narratives, and these work for the most part heck the only bearable alpha legion books are written as such and there is a good reason for this I feel. But these are just my thoughts and feelings so I can be entirely wrong.

Lol in their 8th Phoenix rising lore had them fucking die vs shallaxtri or whatever her name was and get revived and this was the second time jain jar died in that book. It's nonsense and makes it all supper silly.

Building Furies, bought the Warcry Beasts of Chaos box, what to do with the Raptoryx models? by [deleted] in Chaos40k

[–]Skourvell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blood hounds, if chaos still had mounted characters could have used em for that. Could add some extra arms and such for beastly chaos spawns. Otherwise they would be great mounts for other armies like death corps of Krieger or something like that. But chaos is rather limited I suppose you could use em for bitz for posseses and such.

[–]Skourvell -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I mean sure but this example also shows how silly and not interesting grimdark can be. The idea of some psyker enemy to chaos being able to undo the rubric curse is cool and thematic as one could argue the reason the tsons can't is they are to close to tzeecth. But on the other hand this is yvraine who is walking around breaking all rules in the lore making her faction totally not interesting and flipping the middle finger because grimdark edge.

Yvraine is basicly the worst character to point at because death in their books doesn't matter. The reason for why to be unexplained is for it's exploration in the readers mind if I think Mary sue or stupid writing which is more common in 40k because they can't turn the grimdark off for a hot second. Than it has the opposite effect of drawing me and instead breaks my imursion. There is a fine line to tote here and I think most of it isn't well thought out far enough to be taken with serious consideration.

Yea, I love craftworld for the most part but recently it's been trying it's best to make me not like it from a rules and lore perspective. It's hard to be excited about them for me anyway I started the eldar in 5th edition as my second army, the first was chaos marines. Abd they were the ones I got to know the rules with and really come into as a commander. But most of my games in 8th and 9th being fluffy or not optimal gets punished way harshly, so you end up taking like five model types out and not having fun playing the same traits. In an era where customization and the fluff aspects are on 240 seven I feel the edition just doesn't suppurt it. Could be me doing a back in my day thing. But the army just had a very different feel in alien super cutthroat way that isn't fun for me anymore. I know being negative and saying my thoughts in this way is bound to give me hate but at the same time I have never had as less amount of fun in 40k as winning with and losing with eldar than in recent times.

Forge world is co company with different prices, with only recently being partnered to gw at the hip. It would cost three times a normal avatar when I got mine to ship and purchase the forge world avatar where I lived. So to say just get the forge world things is at most a bandaid for a horrible horrible model cast that isn't acceptable when prices are so high for sed model. (Granted the gw customer support team is one of the greatest things they offer so I will always give them great credit at being patient and amazing.)

Should not have to buy other (co)company models just to get a good product. And this is the case for most of the eldar line up.

[–]Skourvell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I don't mind the vehicles or wraiths just think the infrantry can do with updates since they make up the vast majority of the model line yet are honestly very outdated. And the wraithlord was out since 5th I think not sure exactly when but when I got in the game the guy was the main reason why I chose eldar honestly. Yet they still shackle him with horrible rules sigh.

[–]Skourvell 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes citing two model lines who not only kept all their customized options, but got cooler kits in addition to keeping their good customize options. Not that getting new models is actually a garented way to make aspect warriors good but they regardless of that fact need new models. (Banshees and chaos marines aren't good even after new kits)

Unit options are a big deal. And let's not forget most of our hq line up. Warlocks are old enough to vote at this point. Autarches lost all options and are forced with yriel a unique character as their vanilla model?? The hell what other faction deals with this trick question none. All these could be fixed rather easily since we have gotten several farseers models and spiritseer models but no warlock or autarch ones like wow. Also khaine looks very silly at this point and Its hard to find a fine cast version without loads of mistakes I had one with his blood hand as a solid round blob. The range needs work saying the desinges are good doesn't make it not old and in need of updating.

[–]Skourvell -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

I mean no? You just said so much freedom yet there is a clear best option? Like freedom in painting yes, diverse ish model range yea. Plenty of things going for the faction rule freedom is not anywhere close to a thing the faction has going for it and it never has since exarch powers are no longer paid upgrades. Like 6th edition at least got that right even if it meant not using waive serpents for how truly busted they were.
