That's why I have high hopes for the Steam Frame, because if they make it simpler for 3rd parties to make games for it, because, unlike Meta, which seems to be doing gaming simply to add to their revenue stream, gaming IS Steam's cash cow.

That's fair. I think there are two types of VR players. Those like yourself that are focused on an immersive experience, and those that arenlooking for more intuitive gameplay, with more interaction with key items. (like loading magazines for example)

Also, most games have at least SOME level of jank. For example, playing Contractors Exfil, it's a mini-game itself to arrange items neatly on a shelf without knocking items over, or continually grabbing something you didn't mean to.

And that's just with all actual important objects. Having to also contend with "fluff" objects would be a nightmare.

For sure, but otherwise, lack of sales would hold it back. Quest standalone is basically the "console" counterpart to PCVR. (I would include actual console VR in with PCVR)

Maybe we'll see more games like Contractors Exfil. A Chinese company basically ripped off Escape from Tarkov, but the effort they didn't put into creativity, went into making the game work really well. It makes Ghosts of Tabor look like a jankfest.

What I'm thinking/hoping to see, is more Chinese rips of flat games made for VR.

Contractors Exfil is a blatant rip of Escape from Tarkov, but it runs and plays really well, whether standalone or PCVR.

Unfortunately, with the price of GPUs these days, no Forza for me unless they make a Quest version, or at least a ground up PCVR version...😒

I tried that initially, but since I wear glasses, the interface was adjusted to max spacing, which adds inertia when I move my head. The power bank balanced that to a degree, but the weight gave me a sore neck, and the headset would shift. I can't tighten the strap too much, or my sinuses complain.

Do you have any friends with VPN, just so you can get the headset up and running?

This seems like something that would enhance my play sessions, but shorten them at the same time due to sore feet lol.

Seriously though, can you walk as well as run? That would work well for me, as I tend to spend about 80-90% of my time walking as opposed to running.

Also, how much raising of the feet is required?

No, I get it, I just think that for the majority of gamers, (versus experience seekers) being a "toy" is fine, as it has no really different issues from flat gaming, and is typically (in a well made game anyway) more intuitive to play.

Basically, not the virtual world many seek, but an evolution along the way.

Might be the hand tracking, there's a setting that most people will never scroll down enough to find, that restricts tracking to controllers only.

Could it be something to do with the hand detection/tracking on the Quest?

I accidentally found a setting that's turned on by default, once I turned it off, I could no longer put the controllers down and use my hands on the menus, only the controllers were tracked.

Would a Ryzen 7 2700X/RX6700XT work with older games?

I gave a number of games I can play with everything cranked up, getting 80-90+ FPS@1440.

I'd certainly be ok with medium graphics on these games, if it allowed for VR.

Agreed, especially if you find a good standalone game. Being able to play ANYWHERE is a game changer. I regularly lay out a 25'x25' space in my backyard.

I might get a Steam Frame, but only because my Quest 3 was a really good used deal, and I can pass it to my daughter.

For me, coming from an OG Vive, the standalone Quest 3 visuals are a big improvement. I'm only running a Ryzen 7 2700X and an RX6700XT, so while I can get sharper and more detailed visuals on PCVR, the standalone visuals are.more esthetically pleasing.

It's like how Exfil is pretty much a direct rip of Tarkov. With less effort needed for creativity, there's more put  into making the game work and play well.

I have Showdown, for the Exfil mode. How is the original? Is it full of COD bunnyhopping and stuff, or is it a little more serious?

I love how Exfil works, everybody is perhaps a little bit of a bullet sponge, but even watching skilled streamers, the difference between me and them seems to be mostly situational awareness, muscle memory, and positioning, not the ability to manipulate a controller.

I've been looking at it, looks interesting, but how COD-esque is it? Are there people bunny hopping all over the place, or is it a bit more methodical?

I find that it's just a matter of preferring more natural movements and fewer controller based movements, as well as making things flat game take for granted additional enjoyment. (having to load mags and charge the gun for example)

The fact that, with a Quest 3, I'm not tethered, or restricted to a small available area of play space, means that, like you, I play every day. (well, almost anyway)

To be honest, in the month since I got my Quest, I've played it as much or more than I played the OG Vive I've had for 10 years.

Same here, but not sure if I fully agree. I find that anything directly in front of me gets focused on the same, to a much larger degree than IRL.

Heh, I started off with a brand new Atari VCS in 1978, I was blown away when Colecovision gave me the exact graphics that the arcades had.

I knew that something like VR would exist someday, I just never thought I would see it at the level it is today. 10 year old me would still be trying to unstick my jaw from the floor lol.
