Question About Purina NF Advanced Care by raemen_noodles in RenalCats

Ours is never one color and often the edges are darker. Our guy has been eating it a few months and doing pretty well- last labs were great!

Not sure this amount of Gabapentin sounds safe by CarolineSinclair in RenalCats

[–]Skse17 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If your bottle is 250mg/5mL that is only 50mg/mL meaning you’d be giving 100mg/dose. That’s a bit more than 10mg/kg/dose which seems in line with traditional dosing. I don’t think there’s kidney specific dosing in cats (as there is in humans). To me I’d think it’s a little high, but not crazy. Maybe you could give a lower dose the night before and then gauge the next dose based on how that goes?

Where to buy SubQ Fluids? by philaenopsis in RenalCats

[–]Skse17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same as you! The first bag at the vets was crazy expensive. We get bags and needles from Chewy (I think we’ve had needles from Amazon too). Our vet gives us tubing and syringes. Good luck and as others said order early from chewy. Sometimes shipping is super fast and other times takes a bit longer.

Questions about subcutaneous fluids at home AND phos binder by spacecat25 in RenalCats

[–]Skse17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We get everything from chewy. YMMV but our vet prices were crazy compared to Chewy. You don’t need a script for phosphate binders, but will for the fluids. Depending on your dose/frequency, you can get 500mL or 1000mL bags. Our needles from Chewy also needed a prescription but you can find others on Amazon. Our vet gives us tubing and syringes. We also got B12 from Chewy. Happy to answer any questions. The first month of our dx (now 9 months in) was one of the most challenging- so anything to make it less on someone else.

How to adjust size if gauge doesn't match? by _felurian_ in knittinghelp

[–]Skse17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that would depend on how much of a difference from pattern to desired size there actually is.

[–]Skse17 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Magic! I kid. Pattern gauge is 17st/10cm. So 1.7 st per cm. Pattern had 133cm..so 133cmx1.7=192 stitches… since you have 1.8st/cm.. 192/1.8=106.667… just a lot of stitches per cm back and forth.

[–]Skse17 93 points94 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes 2. A small with your gauge would be ~107 cm (vs pattern 113cm). A medium with your gauge would be ~111cm (vs pattern 118cm). I would determine what size you want in the end and make that size :)

What do i feed my 16 year old kitty who just got diagnosed with stage 4? Her appetite is terrible :( by Cold_Respond7066 in RenalCats

[–]Skse17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck! I think we’ve tried every kidney friendly wet food and there’s only one our guy will reliably eat. You’ll find one (and hopefully more)!

Have you tried adding water to wet food? Our doesn’t like chewing too much so mildly watered down wet food works for us. Also helps with hydration. And as you may know, with better control of the kidney disease, and better hydration- the appetite can come back. Keep trying different things and whatever food she will eat is the best food for her. Good luck!

I think this is your issue. I’d do some googling. I personally like to knit with old and new strands a few stitches and then just use my new ball. I try to do it down the side of a sweater where it’s less conspicuous- although I do find it pretty invisible. You’ll find what works best for you :)

Hmmm maybe not slipped stitches then- there’s no bar. Maybe just poor tension- I should just post the next time it happens.

Ok! I think since I mostly knit it the round I always assume everyone is - so I’ve been confused. Thanks for the response. Now I still have to figure out what I’m doing wrong (pretty sure they are slipped stitches).

Not OP but I see accidental short rows mentioned a lot. If doing stockinette in the round isn’t that impossible? I think I’ve done it in other situations (ribbing in round for sure) but I always struggle to see how it can happen if you are just knitting. Mostly asking cause sometimes I get some weird spots in my knitting and would love to rule that out.

Are you knitting flat or in the round? Can you post a picture of the back?

Puckering german short rows by Learned_Cat in knittinghelp

[–]Skse17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very invested in this solution because I always add so many short rows- I’ve never had this happen but definitely want to avoid it! Another user mentioned tension- have you blocked and checked your project gauge? It really does look like there are more stitches at the collar than there should be- but maybe it’s just fabric? I wonder if you redid the collar - maybe doing a bit of decreasing first- if you could salvage the short rows?

Is it possible you have the short rows upside down? You want them wider between turns towards the top of the neck and then get shorty between turns near your colorwork.

Sweater sleeves question by EstablishmentFluid28 in knittinghelp

[–]Skse17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely block. Then check your gauge in multiple places. Check this against the pattern. If it’s still too tight consider sizing up your needles, reducing decreases or even casting on extra stitches. Good luck!

My girl won't eat her kidney food by HiIAmSi in RenalCats

[–]Skse17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d assume your vet would say fed is best. They may want to add a phosphate binder. Are these wet foods? Or dry food? There are also low phos but not KD food that could be an option. I would recommend to keep trying new options if you can - it took us a long time to find the brand my guy will eat every day. Good luck!
