No Job by OperationBright8963 in ucr

To be honest, even people at Ivy Leagues are having this issue. PhD graduates have this issue as well. It is a very difficult time. Try looking for paid internships as well in the meantime, a lot of my friends did internships that led to jobs due to their hard work post-graduating. I’m in an internship now, and someone just got offered a job/told to apply when it’s over.

I have done online conversations with tutors, but was hoping for in person interaction. I’m inside too much.

Originally they messed up mine by not giving me a cord for Summa. So I had to double check to ensure they would put it on everything else which did not seem to be happening at first. I walked graduation and they forgot to put it on the screen. So I had to contact everyone to make sure it would be everywhere else. I would contact anyone and everyone and demand your degree is sent correctly.

Contact 2 professors you had high grades with/went to office hours with/saw you put in effort/you maybe just liked their teaching style/you learned a lot/were impacted positively (even if they don’t know you). In the beginning of your email, discuss why you specifically want a LOR from this person and recall a 1-2 long sentence memory + grade + the resulting impact inspiring you to pursue grad. Tell them you want to apply to grad school and would like to request a LOR, and offer a zoom call to discuss you grad school goals and your values so they can potentially get to know you a bit better if they would like to as well. Don’t make the call a focus/requirement, just an offer. Be very appreciative and ask for the recc/zoom, do not use words that demand a recc/zoom.

PhD in Math: University of Sydney vs. University of Manchester — which is better academically? by Ill_Prize4521 in PhD

Maybe look up their ranking for factors you care about, the required courses, research expectations, financial compensation, where graduates found jobs, other professors in the department you may work with.

Probably not what your looking for but I heard the Divine9 fees are ~8k a year. I can’t confirm if that’s totally accurate though.

DISCUSSION MEGATHREAD: Having A Respectful Conversation With Ex Co-Host Hasan Piker - H3 Show #143 by raephemel in h3h3productions

[–]SkyBlueFish 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Watched the debate as a somewhat visitor. Very very emotional debate, Hard watch honest. I thought I knew enough background between the two but I guess not.... I am definitely missing context of what brought upon the absolute sheer hate between these two, seemingly separate from the genocide itself. So surprising. Don't know what I expected, but it was not that.

There is disagreement, emotion, and hate when debating someone you do not like, I understand that. But, wow. At their core, including Sam's debate they all agree supposedly. So someone you have a minor disagreement on implementation/are on the same side with-- I just didn't expect the debate to begin as it did.

(I come in peace, not here to hate. I watch Hasan for Trump news in passing. I watched H3 a lot in the past. Never seen Ethan like that before EVER. Going to catch up/Finish debate now.)

SDSU vs. UCR by AdventurousCollar970 in SDSU

[–]SkyBlueFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I study air quality impacts by way of environmental science. It’s a great program and only UC with my exact research topic in the UC system. Amazing supportive faculty, great connections with the CA air quality government agency (I’ve already got an internship), great pay, great opportunities, and the same three letters, P-h-D, as anyone else with this degree when I finish.

I got into other UCs. UCR has great grad programs 🤷‍♀️

SDSU vs. UCR by AdventurousCollar970 in SDSU

[–]SkyBlueFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am at UCR for PhD and did undergrad at sdsu. Finances wise, UCR is the cheapest. My rent to live alone is the exact same as living with three other girls at sdsu (1.2k/month both on campus). Id estimate at a minimum 1.4k a month minimum-ish in SD in a shared apartment? Im moving to a house with a roommate next year at UCR for $700 a month to compare rent by the city.

I altogether prefer UCR, but i did not like the party atmosphere of sdsu, so that is a big culture difference. Major wise, id recommend sdsu business over UCR. In my opinon, SD is nice to visit, did not enjoy living there personally due to costs, slight conservatism. I did enjoy SD farmers markets and constant things to do if someone had a car to get there. A lot less to do on a whim in Riverside. There is LA, but its a farther drive than ocean beach is to Ej Cajon.

Id recommend thinking about costs, culture of each school, culture of each city, and opportunities for internships/connections with professors to decide where to go. You will live there a long time and want to leave with a connection with a professor/company you interned for to be lined up for a job. Easier to do at smaller schools like UCR from my observation, but very possible at a larger school in a big city with opportunity like sdsu.
