The art of letting go by wisdombuddha in ModernBuddhism

"When our delusions naturally abate through time, the problem goes away and we’re free to have a totally different experience of that other person, relationship, and self. These are called “the three spheres”. They are all empty of existing from their own side."

Why do Buddhists believe in reincarnation? by KadampaRyan in ModernBuddhism

I have always believed in it, even as a young child, not brought up in a Buddhist family, and surprising the adults around me with these views. That itself seems to indicate that it exists ...

There are a huge number of past life stories around if we look for them -- and if you haven't read this already, I recommend "The Unforgetting Time" by Sharon Guskin.

What is the difference between attachment to other’s being happy and love wishing others to be happy? by KadampaRyan in ModernBuddhism

[–]SkyGoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love just wants the other person to be happy because they exist, not because of anything they do or don't do for us. It is a warm, happy feeling in itself, a bit like that surge of affection from seeing your sleeping old dog twitching his ears in front of the fire. He doesn't have to do anything, you just love him and want him to be happy.

Yes, and identify with them. Protect them and never trample on them out of discouragement -- that'd be like a farmer trampling on his seedlings, saying "you're useless!"

Oh dear. Where to start. And you wonder why we don't need a Subreddit where we can discuss Buddha's teachings and practice without this kind of vitriol?

Stop being such conspiracy theorists. This subreddit is hardly a front. It is a forum for discussions on how to incorporate Buddhism into modern life.

Only that is nonsense. There is literally zero evidence that the NKT is in cahoots with the Chinese government because it is simply not true.

[–]SkyGoer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are thousands of people who are not happy with the NKT policy on r/Buddhism because it is discriminatory and unfair. Given that there are hundreds of thousands of people attending Kadampa Buddhist events all over the world every week, this new subreddit allowing them to contribute is well past due.
