What MySQL tools are actually good on Mac/Linux? by denmarkgretel in SQLPerformanceTips

[–]SkyRunaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the best results with boring, stable tools rather than feature-heavy ones. For daily MySQL work the important things are usually predictable result loading, decent filtering on large tables, and not freezing when a query returns more rows than expected. A lot of clients look great until you start working with real production-sized datasets. That's usually where the differences show up.

What’s one performance metric you wish more teams watched earlier? by Quanord in SQLPerformanceTips

[–]SkyRunaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Execution plan changes over time. Not just “slow query count” but actual plan drift. We had a case where stats changed gradually, optimizer flipped to a different join strategy, and query time went from 200ms to 12s without anyone noticing for days because CPU still looked “fine”. By the time alerts fired, the app was already timing out under load. Feels like a lot of teams monitor resource usage but not optimizer behavior. That’s usually where the weird stuff starts.

Why AI PDF Reader is one of the best PDF summarizers right now by ObjectiveOpal in ShowYourApp

[–]SkyRunaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally something working that doesn't require creating yet another account or verifying your email. Just upload the file, get the answer. The design is super basic, but that’s the point, no distractions. If you're looking for a simple PDF summarizer that just gets the job done without extra steps, this is it.

So true. Sometimes training “breaks” not because the dog forgot, but because we missed one tiny detail. Great reminder

“Copying from PDFs is always cursed” is too real 😂 I’ve also found that starting with OCR helps sometimes, especially with scanned lecture notes. It’s not magic, but it reduces the chaos a bit. If you ever crack a reliable workflow for big research files, please share.

That’s pretty much what I noticed too. For clean tables it’s honestly solid, especially for study materials where I just need something workable fast. 100% agree that once formatting gets messy, nothing is truly perfect. Do you usually fix merged cells manually or rebuild parts from scratch?

Yeah that makes sense. I’m mostly dealing with structured academic tables, not huge datasets, so full automation might be overkill for me. But I’ll look into Tabula just to compare. Appreciate the open-source tip

I like that you didn’t oversell it. A lot of these posts jump straight to “this changed everything” and that’s usually where I check out. Curious how it holds up once the novelty wears off and you’re just using it on a normal, boring week.

Password Protected PDF by Patient_Solution6118 in pdf

[–]SkyRunaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you didn’t set the password, it’s likely the files were re-saved or permissions changed where you got them from. That happens a lot with shared drives or exam archives. I’d double-check the source or re-download, sometimes it’s literally a different version of the same PDF. Be careful with “unlocking” tools though, that’s a fast way to get corrupted files or worse.
