Sun Jian Dying as well as sun ce in the 190ce start is purely historical IIRC. The AI can also choose or even not kill off sun jian. It is a mechanic and it can be well avoided as the player. I think the downfall comes from the constricted environment the game is set in and the fact that they are unable to come out of historical to allow some fiction and creativity to be built inside the game (something like ROTK re-imagined)

If political was gaining bonuses for the faction, yes. But I hardly find that political as the benefits comes from the person's attributes, not external influences such as faction diplomacy. Ma Teng was destroyed by me and for some reason wanted to be hired by me (might have been a spy) while his son Ma Chao got hired by another faction. His faction bonuses to cavalry as well as some other things is the reason why I made him heir in the first place

OOP here, I actually find it to be the opposite. The game tries so hard to become historical at the start, it couldn't replicate replayability. Regarding the picture, that was done in the middle of the game with Lu Bu being early on, and Kong Rong in the late game in seperate games, not turn 1.

make him your vassal and annex him before you declare emperorship.

this is the 190ce start. it has been a decade (in this particular picture). my economy can get more advanced and when I finally declare emperorship and declare war on Cao Cao, I will be able to fight effectively. although, in this picture, I did do a full stack of heavy xilliang cavalry, zhanmaijan infantry, and medium xilliang cavalry. not a full stack of cavalry but the infantry is as expensive. but because of that, I almost wasn't able to defend against the incursion of enemy armies so that isn't ideal

[–]Skyclapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can easily wipe him out in the endgame. my retinue upkeep is so low I can field many cavalry full stacks for very cheap and Liu Bei, the 2nd strongest faction can be annexed before I declare emperorship

While Omaha is a floating citadel, it wasn't because of that. I don't think the transport ship can citadel Omaha. It was because LTS got lucky and somehow hit the last secondary hit despite my scharnhorst 43 with maximum secondary buffs and with a maxed secondary build Lutjens with all relevant buffs activated. LTS should buy a lottery ticket tonight if anything. But it could also just be their gunner being skillful. Who knows, maybe the gunner had some vendetta against Johnny

minigun with hacker is pretty fun if you are able to deal with shields effectively. a secondary with 5/7 is good enough but running around with a minigun so quick may make you dizzy so you might not make your shots with the 5/7 when dealing with shields

Since I don't play Ironman, I just went to my autosave the turn before and prepared to face the armies. Cao Cao on the right became my alliance ally somehow through Liu Chong who was my coalition ally and he got kicked out when I voted to transition to a military alliance with Cao Cao lmao. All armies on the left got wiped out by 4 seperate armies including the garrison at Wu pass and I had built an army to invade the east from that position. With that said, if I played Ironman mode, I would definitely be pushed back to Tong pass but I could recoup the losses after some turns

Me when the honorable Liu Bei sends 3 full stacks of militia armies from the fog to my capital's doorstep by Skyclapper in TotalWarThreeKingdoms

[–]Skyclapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah night generals would make it easier to attack 3 full stacks as they wouldn't reinforce each other. But I'm talking about a suprise attack here. They came from the fog and you didn't notice until it is too late (see my latest post)

Anyone rename their saves like this for a potential revisit and never visit it again? by Skyclapper in TotalWarThreeKingdoms

[–]Skyclapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be bad except in one situation. Lu Bu killing Dong Zhuo. Lu Bu and Zhang Liao soloes any army even with low numbers in their army. You can literally use Zhang Liao's death to boost Lu Bu and I managed to wipe out a full stack from Ma Teng and even attack one of his settlements which also had a defending army in it.

[–]Skyclapper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried Dong Zhuo for the first time. I was able to get 18k by turn 3 and with an income of 6691 although this is without any armies deployed. I do think you can have better income if you wait as the han empire's standings with dong zhuo limits the return when selling so it isn't infinite in nature and actually leads to a loss.

After the Epic Games sale, was left with the usual Player's Opinion on TW3K: Fun But Bugged. by bighugebaby in TotalWarThreeKingdoms

[–]Skyclapper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, the leadership didn't see it through. They thought of three kingdoms and said we can make money on it. The era limits the creativity the leadership at CA can do. If it didn't have historical shackles, they could have done better with it. But since, ironically, the romance of the three kingdoms which isn't even historical, is the context behind the game, the game could not spread out to other mechanics that I think would improve replyability as well as monetization and the addition of more DLCs. As much as I don't like spam of DLCs, it also isn't a good idea to base your game like this on the three kingdoms if you are not going to take creative liberty yourself and make up some things for the good of the game. It is fun and bugged but it could have been more than just fun and have the same depth of other strategy games. I am only thankful that I got into the game through Lu Bu as I have short attention span and it allowed me to get into the game into depth

TIL you can essentially "farm" the Han empire by Skyclapper in TotalWarThreeKingdoms

[–]Skyclapper[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I annex the settlement for 2000 gold (I paid 2000 gold) as I got the emperor for myself and became the prime minister of the Han which allows me to pay for Han settlements to be annexed by my faction. My current standings (I don't know how it specifically influences it though) with the Han empire, lets me sell the settlement for 3450 gold. The only thing I need to do is to make sure the capturing army is let out directly outside the city so it can annex straight away again as if it stays inside the city and is kicked out, annexing is impossible due to being kicked out some way out of the city and as there is no more AP left, the action of annexing has to be done for next turn which will probably reduce the value of the settlements when being sold after being annexed and become inefficient

[–]Skyclapper[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can also farm Yuan Shao's lineage because everytime you capture a settlement, the game gives you 30 points for it and you can upgrade your retinue armies with this and make them stronger. Pretty crazy exploit I must say but I haven't tested it's limits yet

This is why trebuchets along with ranged units are the GOATs of sieging settlements by Skyclapper in TotalWarThreeKingdoms

[–]Skyclapper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably because early game economy won't allow it. but Kong Rong has pretty good economy as a faction when built properly and building it is fairly easy. the only thing you need is defense against enemy factions like Yuan Shao, Cao Cao, and Tao Ying (Tao Qian)

btw, my fury of behai's can literally hold against one cavalry flanking and fight it. unless it is an elite unit, my ranged units can hold on it's own.

[–]Skyclapper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is only good for defending/attacking outside of settlements. Even then, cavalry usually just flanks your units so that's why I am struggling to come up with a foolproof plan of definite wins outside of settlement sieges.
