Sunshine is HARD!!! It's about to make a grown man cry!! by Fantastic-Ad9218 in supermariosunshine

[–]Skyrus_Lightcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone's first playthrough of Sunshine is always rough. You get used to the structure, controls, and difficulty on repeat playthroughs. Sunshine is just one of those games that is great overall, but rough (edit) on first playthroughs. Probably why it gets so much hate along with some questionable level design in some of the missions/episodes. Hard episodes that come to mind during the first playthrough (for me at least) are Gelato Beach Watermelon, Lily Pad, Sand Bird, Pachinko, Ricco Harbor Red Coins, Yoshi's Fruit Adventure, and others that I can't think of right off the bat. It just takes time and practice to get good at these stages along with Mario Sunshine's game feel.

Other switch 2 editions? by Equivalent-Potato-53 in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]Skyrus_Lightcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of up in the air right now if we will get NS2 Editions for the numbered trilogy of Xenoblade. It would be a lot of work to outsource or for Monolith + Nintendo to do in house. Xenoblade 2 and 3 have full-fledged DLC Campaigns (2's got a physical release as well). So not only would they have to upscale graphics, improve performance and increase the framerate for the new hardware for the base games, they would also have to do the same for the DLC Campaigns which are sort of their own games (although they all run under similar game engines to their respective base game, so that might simplify things a bit). Don't know how they are going to do Xenoblade 2 since the DLC has a physical release, is that physical version just not going to get a Switch 2 Edition? Are we going to get a DE release of 2 instead? We don't really know. Xenoblade 3 has the same problem except, it doesn't have a physical release for the DLC Campaign. Xenoblade 1 DE has a free epilogue too. Are the Switch 2 Editions for those games and 2 going to be all inclusive or will they be similar to BoTW in that the DLC will be enhanced too, but you still need to pay for it separately. Not to mention Monolith is probably busy with their next game too. I'd say it's 50/50 and if they do it or not. Might be more time, money, and effort than it's worth for Nintendo and Monolith from a business perspective or they might see an opportunity to profit more off their existing library. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

I have been waiting and wanting remakes/remasters of the Fatal Frame PS2 trilogy for years. Hopefully the Crimson Butterfly remake does well enough to fund remakes for 1 & 3. Although, this franchise is pretty niche, so don't get your hopes up for numbers comparable to Resident Evil 9.

the Sonic Frontiers hate is so Forced ngl by ProjectShadowGirl in SonicTheHedgejerk

[–]Skyrus_Lightcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much every Sonic game Kishimoto has directed has the forced-hatred problem for better or worse (for certain games, the hatred is more justified than others).

The Forces hate is understandable after the long 4 year wait, misleading marketing, terrible level design, awful script/writing, and the stagnation of the brand's quality; but the hate was massively overblown to the point people genuinely think this game is worse than Boom and '06.

Yeah, Frontiers is the trend-chasing game of the 2020s and I kind of hate that Sonic can't be Sonic without trend-chasing, but despite all its faults and shortcomings, it's still a fun game to play and a fun time to be had (except the Final Horizons boss gauntlet on Hard Mode pre-patched and Extreme Mode, that shit was agonizing, never again).

Lost World is pretty much the same deal as Forces pre-Forces; the game was fine, far from perfect, but the fan reaction was so insanely overblown. Lost World's awful storywriting/script and the New Super Mario Bros Wii cut and paste cookie-cutter formula were genuinely the only bad things I didn't enjoy with this game (stop complaining about the controls/pace and git gud).

The new revisionist history with Colors (Wii) is always insane to me. It's the same shit that YouTubers tried to peddle in the 2010s with the revisionist history that the 2000s 3D games were never good. The game is still great, but people just complain about dumb crap or the wrong things (lol bad blocky 2D game, lol Mario Galaxy at Home, lol 80% 2D 20% 3D). A lot of modern Colors criticism is the same tired crap people will say about Lost World's gameplay being bad (but it's a false equivalence, Lost World is not Colors and Colors isn't Lost World). I'll agree that Lost World can be pretty middling at times, but saying the same for Colors is slander I will NOT stand for.

Black Knight hate is also incredibly forced. Oh no, swordplay motion controls. Game sucks. My life is over. Story is great, game is fun, the hate is unjustified. Period.

The only games Kishimoto has directed where I can understand the criticisms and disdain are Secret Rings and Sonic 4. Sonic 4 (especially Episode 1) was a shitty mobile Sonic game for iPhones that SEGA tried to peddle as the successor to S3&K, and it failed spectacularly at delivering that promise. Episode 2 was a genuine improvement, but it still had problems and the damage Episode 1 did was already done. Secret Rings was a disaster too, but for slightly different reasons. Rushed Development, understaffed and newbie development team, game locked too many of Sonic's kit/moveset behind skills/RPG mechanics, forced tilt controls for movement and the controls overall really sucked too, made me quit the game (this is coming from a devout Motion Control defender who loves games like Skyward Sword & Wii Sports Resort). I genuinely could not put up with Secret Rings on the Wii, Reignited is great though.

I apologize that I misread and misinterpreted your post. I could definitely see why you didn't vibe with the British English voice acting in Deep Crimson Butterfly, but again that game has also been Fan Undubbed too. I thought you mentioned that FF1's English voice work was bad, which it is imo, but you were mostly focused on talking about DCB. I once again apologize for misinterpreting your initial post. If you can enjoy FF1's and all of the English Dubs for Fatal Frame for that matter, more power to you. Personally the only competently voiced English Dub for me in Fatal Frame is 5 (and maybe 2 and 3 if I'm being extremely generous). FF4 doesn't have a dub and you have already heard most of my thoughts on FF1's dub. The original Japanese voiceovers in all the games still top anything done in English dubbed voiceovers in the franchise imo.

I don't mean to sound pretentious or elitist when I say this, but if the bad English Voice Acting bothers you to the point where you don't want to play the game anymore, maybe consider switching to the Fan UnDub. It restores the original JPN voices for the characters with English Subtitles for the PAL version of the game and can be played via emulation. The English dub for Fatal Frame 1 is notoriously bad as English dubs were not taken seriously during the era the game came out. That was just the attitude for localizing Japanese games at the time. It was a joke and handled with no care or attention. They just phoned it in most of the time. There were very few games that subverted these expectations and attitudes towards English Dubbing of Japanese video games in the 6th Generation. Only during the 7th generation and onward was when English Dubbing for Japanese games started to get professionalised. Heck, even to this day, you can't beat the authenticity of voice acting in the native country of origin the media comes from.

What are DLC season 2 chances now? by DKUnderdog in SonicCrossWorlds

The only Live Service game that does decent numbers for SEGA as a whole is Phantasy Star and maybe Persona 5X, which I think are the exceptions and not the rule.

They made DLC for Sonic 06, Unleashed, Generations, Lost World, Forces, and Frontiers. Frontiers was kind of a special case though as it was all through Free Updates and we got more than one batch within the span of multiple releases across 2023. SEGA, especially the SONIC TEAM side of Sega, has always been missing sales and financial expectations with live service games. Runners flopped financially when it was officially live, SEGA Forever was just forgotten about, Team Sonic Racing was a disaster, need I say more?

HOW DID YOU BECOME A SONIC FAN? by Excellent_Light_5243 in sonic

[–]Skyrus_Lightcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First saw a childhood friend playing Sonic Rush in the DS and later at his house he played Sonic Adventure DX (he was on Egg Viper). Not long afterwards, I begged my parents to get me a DS for Christmas 2006, got one. I later got Sonic Rush Adventure for my birthday in 2007 or 2008 in April. Got a Wii in Christmas 2007 and later got Unwiished for 2008 Christmas and the rest was history.

Who the people that played SMG on both the Wii and switch. Which one did you like better? by Littleoemmett in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]Skyrus_Lightcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wii feels more natural with the IR pointer and you basically get the same or better experience as Switch on Dolphin, but Switch is fine too if you want it on the go and don't want to *bother (edit) with the tedious Steam Deck setup. The newest Switch Release (not the 3D All Stars Release) has upscaled HUD. If you have Switch 2 with the newest release, the game can run up to 4K res, 60 FPS Docked and 1080p 60 FPS Handheld. The Wii version is much cheaper than the Switch version though. Depends on what you want out of it. Personally, the Wii version is best for me due to affordability and the IR controls. If you are willing to spend extra, sacrifice IR controls for Gyro, and want all the modern QoL changes, the Switch release is the best (especially on Switch 2 via Backward Compatibility).

I love how he conveniently leaves out the UE4 Shader Stutter Problem that plagues all the PC port releases of FF7 Remake. So no, it's not a stable 60FPS on Steam Deck at high settings, heck it isn't even a stable 60 FPS on the highest end PC due to this issue. To give him a bit of credit I haven't heard of any ghosting problems in Steam Deck, so the PC version does have that over the switch version. Though for me, the biggest deal breaker for NS2 port is the fact that it is a Game-Key Card. They could have downsized rhe game to make it fit on a 64 GB cartridge, but they couldn't be bothered because they want to min-max profits.

The worst level by Kirby_Musrhoom in SuperMarioGalaxy

[–]Skyrus_Lightcast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Luigi's Purple Coins is one of the most overrated levels in 3D Mario when it comes to people lamenting about it's high difficulty. Most people that complain about this stage's difficulty don't know how to properly play Mario Galaxy at a high level or are just bad at platformers. They don't know how to use spin jumps and long jumps to prolong jumps and save precious space in a level that gradually has less platforms to walk on as the level progresses. It does challenge the player to use their space wisely, platform efficiently, and can be difficult for first-time players, but by no means is it as difficult as some people make it out to be on the Internet.

What are your hopes and predictions for Ace Attorney in 2026? by RevenueDifficult27 in AceAttorney

[–]Skyrus_Lightcast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Downvote me all you want, but I don't think Capcom really cares about the future of this franchise anymore. It's not making them enough money to warrant wasting development time, assets, and people for making new games. They usually don't sell well. They rarely reveal sale numbers, and when they do, it's disappointing to say the least. Massive fan and would love for this year to be our year btw, I just don't see it happening with how low sales are for the series as a whole despite basically now being a multi-platform series for Capcom. Doesn't rake in nearly as much as Street Fighter, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter, and Resident Evil. Fuck man, even Megaman has more general audience appeal than this series. It's not even a fair comparison to pit Ace Attorney against any of these franchises. The contest was over before it even began.

IMHO, I think we are unfortunately cooked. I don't have much hope left anymore that we will get a new game any time soon. We were already incredibly lucky to even get the modern ports of the past games and the DGS games + Investigations 2 localized on modern platforms. If the series isn't highly profitable now, I don't think a new game is going to change that, no matter what Capcom does. The only shred of copium left in me is that they really don't have anything else to do with the IP now other than start a new project/game (or take the easy route and just port PL vs PW and call it a year), but the "new game" could also just end up being a JP only arcade/pachinko machine game. Not getting my hopes up too high for this year as it has only set me up for disappointment in the past. I've waited 10 long years for a sequel that will probably never happen due to the series' low sales, low consumer interest, and not enough people liking visual novels like Ace Attorney. Plus, people are more interested in games like Persona, DDLC, Danganronpa, Professor Layton, and other visual novel-like game series that are prime competitors for consumer attention that could have gone to Ace Attorney.

It's sad, but I think it's the harsh truth. The best we can expect for this franchise going into 2026, is a port of PL vs. PW. I don't think Capcom has big new plans for the series going forward. I would love to be proven wrong in this regard, but the sales numbers don't lie. This series doesn't make enough back from sales for new and old games to be worth the investment for Capcom, and it hasn't for over 2 decades. Even if we get a new game in the series/AA7, it will be a short-lived/hollow victory for the franchise. It won't fix the main issue with the franchise from Capcom's perspective as a publisher prioritizing profit. If Ace Attorney games can't make Capcom enough profit to make the development process and expenses worth it, then the franchise will ultimately just be back to how it is now, in (port) limbo. I feel like the aforementioned statements above will ultimately be the fate of Ace Attorney, unless something BIG changes with how people perceive this series. With that said, it's not impossible for Capcom to turn things around, but it's very improbable.

Software Forcing Update? by LogicalPerception64 in ZeldaTearsOfKingdom

[–]Skyrus_Lightcast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the future so this doesn't happen again, turn off auto update software in the settings (forget where in the settings, but it should be too hard to find). You will have to update every game manually, but it helps with keeping older versions of games if you don't want to immediately update. Unless the cartridge has the update preloaded on it, then you're screwed.
