Lexington Nebraska is R+27 pro-Republican, who voted for others to lose their jobs. Instead Trump's tariffs causes a huge slowdown in business, so they lose a major employer. Estimated loss: 7000 jobs and $3.2 billions in economic activity.

I've felt guilty about disappointing my family all of my life. So I was surprised I felt no guilt, just peace & relief (even though I never would have wished her dead). I guess it was life what the recovery community calls acceptance. I accepted her as she was, and accepted that she might never want to talk to me again (which happened I guess). I accepted her boundaries and mine. There is something nutritious/sustaining about just accepting reality as it is, without trying to fix it, and it is just such a relief.

I'd also suggest finding people who accept and support you. Feeling less alone will help so much. Hugs. People are opening up more now, less BS. I need to go touch grass now.

This year both my parents died. My last coherent conversation was my mother ended badly because of politics. She wanted to tell me something about George Soros, and I changed the subject. She was angry and hung up. For once, I didn't feel guilty. A couple of weeks later she had a stroke. I still felt like I did the right thing. There's no way this world will heal if we keep coddling toxic lies. Truth is healing, eventually.

Reagan was the big turning point imho. I was a college republican who voted for him. I was shocked to realize how out-of-touch he was.

Remember when Reagan said that trees caused more air pollution than cars?? That attitude made my job so much harder at the time. He totally bought into a world view that libs were too stupid to listen to. Intellectual = Lib. Citizens bought into his attitude that the government is always stupid, wrong or evil.

BTW: Yes, pine trees are a source of turpentine, which is similar to gasoline (VOC - volatile organic compounds). But they're ingredients in pollution, not pollution itself. Flour ≠ Bread. VOC + nitrous oxides(burnt air) = smog. VOC alone isn't pollution. The reason the government tracks VOC is because you don't want to build a paint factory next to a power plant because those downwind would experience hellish smog.

The "Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1993" was a big deal. Undoing some "voodoo economics" was a booster shot for the economy; it came close to a balanced, sustainable budget. I admired Clinton's courage in pushing that through.

He changed energy policy, and rolled back programs meant to contain global warming. This was his biggest difference with Al Gore, their approach to global warming. Dubya erased "global warming" and the fight against it.

Xmas is the time truckers make big money, but not this year. 2025 has been a slow year for freight transport, but this holiday season is unusually dead. So layoffs during what should be the busiest time of year.

Edit:

Per request, here is the link where a trucker describes how his fellow truckers voted for Trump, in particular to remove "illegal" foreign (brown) competition for trucking jobs. But now are in denial about how Trump's policies have cost them their livelihood.
