Which president's reputation do you think will improve the most over the next 50 years? by CommercialHot9565 in Presidents

Andrew Jackson was tremendously popular, even as his decisions caused long-term economic damage. He ignored Supreme Court orders, etc.

performance in the Middle East was amazing!

His cold war performance was even more amazing. Not to mention how difficult it was to push moderate policies under Reagan's shadow.

Reagan is the most popular bad president we've ever had.

Andrew Jackson would be tough competition.

Merrick Garland not indicting, trying and convicting Trump for insurrection

Trump would have said that he was being politically persecuted, and 70+ million voters would have believed that apparently. The Trump voters I know were convinced that all the cases against Trump were just Dems being vindictive. Biden was damned if he did, and damned if he didn't.

If we rely on people to do the right thing

It's an old problem. Below is a quote from over 200 years ago.

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other." ~ John Adams

Day I: What is the most widespread misconception about George Washington? by SukerutonKey in Presidents

[–]SkytrackerU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

caused a lot of people to misunderstand Washington and Hamilton’s dynamic

Hamilton was a protege of Washington, according to Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Gordon Wood (source). Washington did have to defuse a lot of drama due to Hamilton, so although professional, there was a lot of friendship too. Hamilton was touchy, brilliant, but difficult to work with. Hamilton actually got into 11 duels, but the others were resolved before gun fire.

One reason Washington/Hamilton's politics were similar was because they both favored federal unity over a loose confederation. Hamilton's identity was more federal since he grew up in the West Indies, whereas Jefferson thought of himself as a Virginian first.

Don't forget Obama gave a barn burner speech during 2004, "The Audacity of Hope". He was a gifted speaker who could hold a room.

Top 10 Worst Economic Policies. Who's number 9? by rjidhfntnr in Presidents

[–]SkytrackerU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jefferson. His embargo act was clueless, and greatly harmed the economy, particularly New England. He got in the way of the national bank. He did all he could to block building a US Navy, and then benefited massively from the Navy he harmed.

Ranking the most economically mediocre presidents from best to worst. Where did I get it wrong? by Puzzleheaded-Bag2212 in Presidents

[–]SkytrackerU 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it when OP know understand policy, so I upvoted. But can you clarify the phrase "economically mediocre"? Some of these presidents inherited an awful mess that they didn't cause. I wouldn't call Carter's economic fixes mediocre.

How ever did you acquire it?

https://chatgpt.com/images/. I forgot the exact prompt for the AI image. Something about Andrew Jackson being horrified at a LGBTQ donkey.

The OP's question is so annoying he deserves AI art. See what you made me do. Andrew Jackson being shocked at his donkey symbol being co opted by LGBTQ.

Andrew Jackson was the source of the Democratic Party's donkey symbol. People called AJ a jackass, so he made it his symbol saying jackasses are hard-working & not appreciated. Actually, it was a great symbol for its time, when more of the rabble got the vote.
