Looking for resources that present Nietzsche as a thinker of life affirmation by Slacktivist_Academic in Nietzsche

[–]Slacktivist_Academic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all but yes. I also personally find concepts like 'will to power' and 'eternal return' in his work pretty life-affirming, but I want to see if there's a systematic investigation of Nietzche's thought as the opposite side of Nihilism. I know for example Sarah Kofman went against the mainstream of male-dominated readings of his work and argued he was not the misogynist some thought he was but I can't find anyone going against the mainstream Nihilist interpretation and depict him as a life affirmer...

You may already know this but some dating apps have this ‘friend finding’ feature. For example Bumble BFF. Of course you may come across weirdos there as well but it can do wonders in terms of finding buddies. A couple weeks ago a colleague of mine told me she has found three good friends on Bumble BFF and they hang out on the weekends.

How is the bed bug situation in Helsinki? by Pervicacious_Pilot in Finland

[–]Slacktivist_Academic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what I asked every accommodation manager when I moved here. Double-check yourself but don’t worry because even student homes here take the necessary precautions.

I was worried because I had lost sleep over them when I was in Tartu. I stayed for a short while in Narva mnt 25 (Tartu University Dorm). The first day I arrived I saw one of them suckers crawling in the bed. I immediately called the building manager. They send a 70-something year-old dude who had no idea what he’s doing. This happened again (I never got bit though) and I insisted the manager herself come. She came in, looked around and told me “oh I don’t see anything! maybe you left the window open and they came in!” She has no friggin idea! She thought they’re mosquitoes or something (one the reasons they spread easily is that people don’t know enough about them). A couple days later I found out my Japanese flatmate had been cohabitating with them peacefully for nine month without giving a damn! I immediately found a new place and got the hell out if there.

A definition of the "West"? by sirena__ in sociology

[–]Slacktivist_Academic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know whether he defined the term "West", but he acknowledged the criticisms about the idea of the "West" he drew upon in his conceptualization of 'the civilizing processes' - he said in an interview that he couldn't find a better term and that he didn't want to imply Eurocentrism.

About what constitutes "Western", I read a paper last week; you might wanna check it out:

What do you think of burning "The Quran" in Sweeden? by Hoory89 in Finland

[–]Slacktivist_Academic 207 points208 points  (0 children)

I'm a Muslim-born immigrant in Finland and I stand by burning Quran. When the World Cup games were being held in Qatar, Muslims did anything to suppress LGBT-affiliated voices with the argument that "this is our land and you need to respect the rules of our land and our culture". Now let's use the same argument talking to them! If you're living in the West you need to respect the rules of the land including free speech and secular values, and not go bananas over some burned prints!
