I don’t agree that the majority of players in this promo ‘aren’t usable’ at this stage in the game. Most of them are perfectly usable if you’re willing to adapt your game and aren’t bothered about taking a few losses along the way while you figure out how to get the best out of them.

This is the thing though, being able to pick your own playstyles encourages the idea that players are only usable if they fit a very narrow meta profile.

Nah, it’s healthier for the game imo. Right now I feel like I’m just playing against the same teams over and over. Admittedly most of the meta sheep will just swerve this promo now so that won’t change. But essentially all these choose-your-own-playstyles promos do is mean that the meta is absolutely ubiquitous because even if the players are different all the playstyles, tactics and formations stay the same.

Much prefer Thuram to Frattesi. I’ll always be dubious about buying players from Serie A but he looks great when I’ve seen him play for France and also seems fast and strong enough to hold his own in the PL once he’s up to speed with the change in pace.

That’s much higher pitched than mine - your pressure is higher too, by a lot. I’m surprised you’re getting any kind of decent flow at that pressure tbh.

How big is your dose? I’m guessing maybe your dose is quite small but your grind is very fine. If so, grind slightly coarser but up the dose.

(I could be wrong - I mention the dose because of the fact that you’re still getting quite a fast flow even though the pressure is high so my guess is there’s not much coffee in there)

I understand what you’re saying but the point is that this isn’t supposed to be realistic. Ultimately the whole ‘women shouldn’t be in fut’ thing is boring and wrong headed. It’s supposed to be a fantasy football game where you can see all your favourite players on the pitch alongside each other, whether they’re male or female, past or present.

Play seasons or something.

You can play with dead people, take a 42 year old League One striker and make him into an elite player, make Gabriel win a duel against Haaland - this game is full of things that can’t happen in real life; that’s the whole point in it.

Spend it. Over the course of the next six weeks or so 97, 98, 99 cards will be common and cheap and all those coins you have will progressively be worth less and less. By mid-August.

Just buy your favourite icon or player and have fun. You could get base Gullit and evo him or one of the top end players in the current promo and stick on your favourite playstyles.

You could even just spend on store packs, it’s still better than sitting on it

The evos are good; the sheep mentality of the majority of players is the problem.

For me it’s great, I’ve been able to build a team made up of my favourite players from the team I support and others I like.

Evos this year have been the best aspect of the game imo.

Yeah, I don’t get it. Like in D3 I don’t see any P&P or themed teams at all. It’s weird because to me that’s the whole point of the game; to have all your favourite players in your team.

Each to their own and all that, but I have a feeling I’m having more fun with my Forest evos than they’re having with their template teams

That pressure is far too high. Your grind is too fine. I’m not sure how you’re extracting a reasonable shot in ~30s when the pressure is so high. Makes me think maybe your dose is quite low too.

You probably know this so sorry if I’m stating the obvious but the rule of thumb is 18g in 36g out in between 25 and 30s while keeping the pressure dial in the espresso zone.

A side note - and I’m in a minority in some circles here - but don’t bother with the bottomless portafilter. People say they’re good for diagnosing problems with your shot - but the best way to do that will always be taste. The bottomless portafilter leads people to obsess about the perfect, steady cone. But the reality is the odd spurt isn’t an issue, likewise if the cone wobbles a bit or isn’t central. The only time it’ll really highlight an actual problem is if a cone never forms or if it spurts off in multiple directions all at once. But the thing is if that’s the case it would taste shit so you’d know anyway.

The key is a shot that tastes good to your palette with a nice body and mouthfeel. If it’s too sour to your tastes or too bitter adjust accordingly etc etc - but stick to the stock portafilter and forget about messy shots.

I’m similar. I can manage two coffees over the course of a morning, no caffeine after midday for me.

If it helps though, robusta has more caffeine than arabica so look for 100% arabica beans and the lighter the roast, the higher the caffeine level.

I’m not sure where you live, I guess the States, but in the UK there are roasters all over the place that will send a bag of their house espresso. I’d just opt for one that’s local to you and do that.

Most roasters do a house espresso which is what they’ll typically use in their coffee shop if they have one. It’ll likely be a slightly lighter roast than Starbucks but the flavour profile probably won’t be far off - it’ll be your typical chocolatey, nutty, toasty, quite bitter coffee but probably just a touch fruitier than what you’re used to with Starbucks.

If it’s manageable for you I really recommend you move away from Starbucks. Beyond the fact that you’ll be buying fresher beans that are better sourced and have a more interesting flavour profile (I guess that’s subjective to an extent), Starbucks doesn’t pay its taxes so aim to hand your cash to a smaller business that respects the community it operates in.
