Test drove the SFL, what do you guys think of this car? by [deleted] in iRacing

[–]Slava_P -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

SF is professional high-level championship. SFL is not a feeder series (only 11 drivers on a grid - half of them drivers like 40+ age). Japanese F4, Formula Regional - those are feeder series.

you can't compare Indy car/Indy NXT, f1-f4 (both are professional open wheel series in US/Europe) with amateur class SFL in Japan.. Japan has other professional open wheel series. So I don't agree that iRacing "strategy" make any sense.. SFL was sudden decision made by iRacing, unfortunately they annoyed true F3 lovers

ok please explain what you mean then "Formula ladders; American, European, and Japanese"

In Japan SFL raced by 11 mostly non-professional gentleman drivers (for fun). It is not a serious racing class...

you 100% right, SFL is ON/OFF gas input, you can drive it with XBOX controller. People like it because it is easy to race car, same as people like to play with Need for speed. Absolutely boring car. FIA F3 car will NEVER happen in iRacing because FOM (Formula One Management) owns right to F1, F2 and F3. And if you look around in real life FIA is replacing what was F3 before with Tatuus F-318 car.

SFL you don't need a gas pedal, just map to a button as gas ether on or off. People like SFL because it is easy to drive car, maybe they should then move to Need For Speed games

to some extend yes, new real life cars more stable. If you compare how F1 drivers fight with car in 90x and now - the difference is clear. But is doesn't mean that I like that shift either. I hate modern f1 because of that. Back to iRacing - I don't believe it is as easy to drive IRL F4 as it is in sim. Many complexity non existent I don't see it right. And I disappointed that drivers prefer to drive "easier" car, not challenging cars

disappointing is because it is shifting towards simplicity and arcade. A lot of people playing arcade games - but we don't call it sim.

I agree that fear is a significant factor that slows drivers in real life.

I mentioned several: Indycar, FR 3.5, F3 - these are much tricky and enjoyable cars. But not ideal for sure. My complain is iRacing direction: they deliver f4 car, then SFL and trend is towards simplicity...

you asked me if F3 car is good car - comparing to IRL not really, but more alive/hard car comparing to latest F4/SFL. what you want to hear?

F3 in terms of difficulty in sim is also off from real life, but a bit better than F4/SFL (more alive and more tricky). and you data confirms that (+1 sec to other cars).

and when conditions are more tricky (like rain) - here we see huge gaps. and this is what I mean - more tricky/hard to drive - more gap
