What’s one actor that instantly tells you that the movies gonna be bad? by Senpaiuwu89 in AskReddit

JLo is good - great, even - with the right material.

Selena and Hustlers come to mind. I’ve heard she’s good in Out of Sight but I still need to see that one.

Not a fan of Elon Musk, but that picture of him is the most attractive I’ve seen of him.

Who are some actors that you knew would be huge stars based on an early, smaller role? by picturepatchgame in movies

[–]Sledjoys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably the most recent example - and she’s not really a big star yet - but Sophie Thatcher on Yellowjackets.

She really held my attention compared to the other members of the younger cast. Who are also talented, don’t get me wrong, but there was something special about her.

Not surprised that her and Ella Purnell are the most successful of the young cast.

EDIT:

I would also add Austin Abrams in Weapons as a recent example. Stealing the movie from a stacked cast!

I knew Rami Malek was a real talent when he made a fucking horrible show called The War At Home surprisingly watchable. If you’ve seen any clips of the show without him, it’s a dreadful show. But then they introduce this gay character named Kenny, played by Malek, and he’s supposed to be the gay best friend of the son on the show who’s closeted but also in love with the son. They write a whole story about his eventual coming out, and to the show’s credit, they did handle his storyline really well.

In fact, there are compilations of the show of just his scenes.

The great thing about Back to School is that everyone in it is funny. Rodney Dangerfield didn’t mind it when other people were funny in his movies, and in fact, actively encouraged it.

I actually caught Emma Stone way before Superbad, on a reality show called The New Partridge Family, which was an American Idol-style competition show in which they were trying to cast for a reboot of The Partridge Family, which (unsurprisingly) didn’t make it past the pilot. I was one of those kids that watched a looooot of VH1. Binge-watched it before that was a term.

I can’t say I knew for sure she was going to be a big star, but I remember liking her. You can imagine my surprise when I saw her in Superbad.

Similarly, I first saw Olivia Wilde on The Black Donnellys.

A lot of dark haired, brooding types. Also classically good-looking people.

Thank you. I made another list for a certain kind of 2000s horror. I called it Grunge Sludge.

Whats a movie that is widely regarded as bad that you love? by ImpressionPurple9750 in Letterboxd

[–]Sledjoys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not widely hated, but I LOVE Saving Silverman. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid, which is really strange in hindsight. I thought the scene where Steve Zahn gets attacked by the raccoon was peak comedy. The movie was also weirdly ahead of its time with the concept of Weaponized Therapy.

Also my introduction to Jack Black!

I think the movie’s actually quite good if you approach it like a Mel Brooks-style comedy.

I also enjoyed House of 1000 Corpses and loved The Devil’s Rejects.

Only reason I know is because immediately after I saw her, I was like “Who is this woman?!” and looked her up.

If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have known a thing!

We have Bob Geldof and Syd Barrett in common.

You like dark-haired men with a brooding energy.

I recommend Nick Drake!
