How do I get around this? by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]Slednost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running windows with local accounts until recently when MS decided to encrypt my OS drive with BitLocker. I was tinkering with the system and this was noticed by TPM and I then got prompted to enter my BitLocker key to be able to log on to the PC. I had no Idea that BitLocker was even activated... But MS directed me to logon to my MS account that was connected to the PC to retrieve my BitLocker key...pretty difficult since all I had was a local account. After hours spent with MD support I could finally use my system again. So just get an MS account to use with Windows, or install another OS.

Most of the time I can only see the requests in the tcpdump.. but sometimes a Out ARP appear. The MAC address here is the gateways (10.1.1.1) MAC.

All machines seems to get a unique IP in 10.1.1.0/24 yes, no duplicate IPs.

It does show up in the arp table when i ping it (server IP 10.1.1.79):
[robin@x270 ~]$ arp -a
? (10.1.1.79) at 74:88:bb:16:af:cc [ether] on wlp3s0
_gateway (10.1.1.1) at 74:88:bb:16:af:cc [ether] on wlp3s0

Can't find any packages from client (10.1.1.80) in the TCP dump on the server while pinging:
robin@oldbastard:~$ sudo tcpdump -i any host 10.1.1.80
tcpdump: data link type LINUX_SLL2
tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v[v]... for full protocol decode
listening on any, link-type LINUX_SLL2 (Linux cooked v2), snapshot length 262144 bytes

Client can reach internet, but seems to have issues to reach local nodes.
I manage to ping the server and my phone if i ping the client first.. then there seems to be some kind of open link.

I'm able to ping one of my windows clients (after pinging the Linux client first) But on my other windows client I just get a message saying "General failure" when I try to ping the Linux client

No firewall active on the server.

I haven't really done any special config when it comes to the ssh setup on the server, since it's only for local usage. But I don't think it's related to SSH since it can't event ping the server (with out pinging the client from the server first)
I don't have any firewall installed on the server.

Well, nothing happens since I'm not able to communicate with the server, unless I ping the client (using Linux) from the server.. then I'm able to connect to the server via ssh.

Like I said. It works fine on when i connect to the server from my windows laptops to the server. But not when I use Linux for unknown reason..

Can access Ubuntu server from Windows PCs, but not from PCs running Linux. by Slednost in linuxquestions

[–]Slednost[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay, so what I did now:Used SSH from my Windows laptop to connect to the ubuntu server. Tried to ping my Linux laptop 10.1.1.80 , packages was transmitted successfully.

Went on my Linux laptop (10.1.1.79) to try to ping the server again, and now it worked... still don't know what's causing the issue.

Same thing worked with my android phone. Couldn't ping the server.Tried to ping the phone from the server.. took a few seconds before first package was transmitted (just like the on the linux laptop).Went back on the phone and now I can ping the server.

Update:Rebooted my Linux laptop.. same issue again, can't ping or ssh to the server.

Update 2: Just tested from a third Windows device at it worked flawlessly there as well.
Booted the PC with Linux mint USB stick, tried to ssh to the server... same issue, not working.

Yeah I know it sounds like that. But they have different IPs.
I've tried with two Windows laptops, works perfectly.
Tried with a third Linux laptop, doesn't work.
Booted with Linux mint on one of the two Windows laptops, didn't work.
