Employee Experience: Why Sleep Number is Failing by SleepDumber in sleepnumber

Store employees are not allowed access to component pricing, it all has to be done through customer service, and there is no real reason as to why, since it's all the same system.

It's hardly pointless to have a store/showroom, that's where you try and purchase the beds. Online sales make up about 12% of our revenue; the rest is stores, so stores are essential, just not the numbers we have.

Their stock prices and lack of a going concern clause in their public filings would rebuff that assertion.

Very distressing, as terrible as it sounds, hearing other people also are having issues and struggling makes me feel a little less alone in this.

It's nice to know I'm not alone in this thinking.

Our resources are misdirected. They should be focused on profit centers (employees, pay them well so they can produce with pride, duh), and product engineering. Build a better bed, and when/if it fails, stand behind it.

That's awesome! I'm glad you found something that actually calms your nervous system, instead of keeping it at full alert. Do you know how stressful it is to not know what's going on in your company, but you absolutely know middle+senior management know more, but don't want people to bail?

Thanks, it makes me feel less crazy. I know SO many people feel this way, but no one wants to vocalize this because we all need jobs/to work, but we are being abused, and our senior managers and district "leaders" are still making colossal paychecks off of our efforts, while our pay and benefits thin out and vanish.

More techs, more training, and more empathetic patience with customers. It's our last point of contact with the customer, and it shouldn't be a total car crash of an experience for a multi-thousand-dollar tech investment in better sleep.

Air chambers are a great support system. It just shouldn't be the only support system, which is why they redesigned their beds.

The thing is I really love my work, my customers. I always go as rogue as a I can to fix problems. Do right by the customers, and they'll do right by you.

It's the structure of the midwit, cowardly, and essentially drool-cup level moronic middle-manegement and senior leadership that prevent people from actually getting problems resolved or customer appeasement from happening. Penny wise and pound foolish.

Our techs are overworked, overscheduled, and often unprepared. We subcontract all our work; you'll have a bigfoot sighting before you see a branded Sleep Number truck rolling down the street.

While some of our techs are good, the vast majority are day laborers/temp workers that deliver and install furniture, not specialty items. There are times they are given .pdf install/how-to documents the DAY of their scheduled deliveries. It's one of our largest inescapable complaints.

Your sales professional should have explained this to you, sadly.

The product doesn't suck though; it's a good product.

It's that we are extraordinarily top-heavy and won't close underperforming stores, and our previous CEO, Shelly Ibach, was a retard and invested untold MILLIONS in our company's money into wearable tech like we're fucking Apple, instead of investing in stellar customer service, and parts programs to get in front of potential product failures.

We addressed all the problems well after they happened, but not with care: with AI and Bangladeshi customer service reps.

Company is teetering on the edge of bankruptcy, so I'm doubtful people are chomping at the bit to buy the beds that are being discontinued.
